UFC 89 - Sherk vs T. Griffin in the works

Mmabay has learned from a source inside the UFC that a match between lightweight contenders Sean Sherk and Tyson Griffin is being lined up for the next UK event on October 18th in Birmingham. This is one of a number of match ups being talked about, designed to give the event a much needed star name boost.

Griffin, fresh off his second win of 2008 against Marcus Aurelio at UFC 86 a little over a week ago, will look to continue his winning ways in what many believe will, at that time, be a number one contenders match up. Having battled his way to four straight decision victories, Griffin will be looking to finish in more convincing fashion against his most serious threat to date.

Former UFC champion Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk on the other hand will look to get back to winning ways after losing to current champion B.J. Penn back in May. He will be hoping for a better reception this time he crosses the pond, where at UFC 80 in January, he was booed by the UK crowd following a positive test for steroids, which Sherk still denies knowingly taking.
