The Spider vs The Iceman lined up for London show

Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell is being lined up to take the biggest risk in his long illustrious UFC career in February when he could meet UFC middleweight champion, Anderson “The Spider” Silva.

After suffering a devastating loss back in September, making it three in his last four, Liddell’s back is firmly to the wall and he needs a win over a massive name and it seems Silva fits the bill.

It would appear that Liddell turned down a fight against Rich Franklin for UFC 93 in Dublin not only because they are friends, but that a win would not put him back to where he needs to be. Certainly a win over the “pound for pound” best in the world could give Liddell one last shot at a title run.

Silva himself is unscathed coming off a three round TKO win over Patrick Cote and is known to be eyeing another move back to light heavyweight. This time, Silva would be doing much more than testing the water, taking on a man who ruled over the 205 pound division for years.

As MMABAY EXCLUSIVELY revealed over a week ago, the UFC is set to return to the UK in February and a date seems to have been set, February 21st Fighters Only Magazine revealed yesterday. The most suited arena for such a showcase fight has been chosen as the O2 in London, where both UFC’s 75 & 85 have taken place.

This fight would certainly make up for recent disappointments for UK fans. A string of injuries has seen a number of top fighters such as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Lyoto Machida and Chuck Liddell himself pull out of events this year.
