UFC 115 - Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin set to go down in Vancouver
As reported earlier the light heavyweight grudge match between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz has been scrapped from UFC 115 following a possible bust-up between Ortiz and the UFC management. But fans of “The Iceman” fear not, former middleweight champion, Rich Franklin has stepped up to the plate on June 12th in Vancouver, Canada.
The change was first reported by Fighters Only Magazine earlier today but it appears that a wild stab in the dark that the fight would go down on April 17th in Nashville turned out to be completely wrong.
Liddell will be looking to rebound follow back to back knockout losses to Rashad Evans and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua which left him on the verge of retirement. His last win inside the octagon came over two years ago when he defeated fellow legend, Wanderlei Silva via unanimous decision.
As for Franklin, the former teacher has found himself in no man’s land recently having fought both of his last fights at a catchweight of 195 pounds. A win over Wanderlei Silva followed by a first round knockout loss to Vitor Belfort did nothing to decide which direction the man known as “Ace” should take.
Stay tuned to MMABay in the coming days for further confirmation on the fight between the former champions as well as details of why Tito Ortiz pulled out of the show half way through filming.
