Dana White says Melvin Guillard is finally living up to his potential

UFC President, Dana White has been giving his thoughts on the performance of lightweight, Melvin Guillard last night at UFC 109 in Las Vegas, saying “The Young Assassin” looks as if he’s finally living up to his potential.

Speaking to MMAJunkie.com, Dana said:

“Melvin Guillard has always been one of those kids that isn't living up to his potential. That kid is so athletic, so explosive, great on the ground, great wrestling, great stand-up, has knockout power.”

“Melvin's been doing that stuff since Day One. If this kid would buckle down, take this thing seriously – he's an incredible athlete. So hopefully now down there with Greg Jackson and his crew, that's the guy Melvin Guillard is going to become.”

“Let me tell you, he fought a tough kid tonight. That was a war. If this other fight (Chael Sonnen vs. Nate Marquardt) wasn't that great, that could have been up for the 'Fight of the Night' (award) too.”

Guillard has now won four of his last five fights as he heads into the rest of 2010, with his only loss coming via second submission to Nate Diaz back in September at UFC Fight Night 19. He made it clear following the fight last night that a title shot was in his plans before the end of 2011.
