Nogueira’s manager says his fighter wants a rematch with Frank Mir

Jorge Guimarães - manager of some of the biggest names in MMA such as Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida and the Nogueira brothers – has spoken about the future of UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira as well as discussing other Brazilian fighters.

Speaking to Tatame.com, Guimarães had this to say regarding the immediate future of Nogueira following his defeat to Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 in February:

“The UFC didn’t say anything yet, it’s too soon. Depending on the result of Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin fight, we’d lot to have a rematch with Frank Mir.”

Guimarães also spoke about how he deals with managing the careers of so many star fighters, as well as addressing the status of former PRIDE light heavyweight Ricardo Arona:

“I feel privileged to work with the fighters I work. The biggest difficulty is time enough to deal with all of them. That’s why a good partner and a competent team are indispensable.”

“Ricardo Arona never called us… I tried to talk with him last year, Affliction‘s matchmaker Tom Atencio tried everything to sign him. I never negotiated anything for him.”

When quizzed about troubled former WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho, Guimarães said:

“You can fix anything ni this life, you just need to be alive. Paulo is very talented, has a great family and he only depends on himself now. Recently, we offered him great opponents in big events, but he wasn’t 100% to get in action.”

The chances of a rematch with Frank Mir will surely depend entirely on how the former heavyweight champion fares in his fight with Shane Carwin at UFC 111 later this month and Nogueira will no doubt be watching closely as he eyes the opportunity to avenge his defeat Mir way back at UFC 92.
