“Rampage”: You didn’t have to BEAT the champ when I lost to Forrest

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson spoke EXCLUSIVELY to MMABay yesterday about the similarities between his fight last year with Forrest Griffin and this weekend’s clash between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, saying the notion of having to “beat the champ to become the champ” certainly didn’t apply in his fight.

When we mentioned that we’ve received a deluge of support for him on the email over the weekend when comparing the two situations, Jackson said:

“Everybody knew when I fought Forrest, that wasn’t me. Everybody knew I had a bunch of injuries after I fought Dan Henderson and that I couldn’t train. I got real busy after I became the undisputed champion and things happen and I didn’t train, so when I finally started training for Forrest it was too late. I had a lot of weight to lose.”

“I felt like I beat him that night and I have the judges to thank for that costing me my belt. I watched the fights at the weekend and heard someone say, ‘To win the title you gotta BEAT the champ’. Well that didn’t happen when I fought Forrest.”

MMABay can also reveal from a source close to the Memphis born fighter that the producers have been very impressed with his acting skills & charisma since joining the cast of The A-Team so much so that other movie offers are already rolling in.
