EXCLUSIVE: Cheick Kongo set to return in December in Memphis, Ten.
MMABay can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that Wolfslair MMA Academy trained heavyweight, Cheick Kongo is set to return to action inside the octagon in Memphis, Tennessee on the same December card that will feature Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans.
The news was revealed to MMABay late last night by a source close to the French fighter who will now look to get his rise to the title back on track following a recent loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 99 on June 13th.
The fight was taken at short notice with Kongo stepping in for the injured Heath Herring. What fans didn’t know was that Kongo had suffered an injury of his own but decided to answer the UFC’s SOS call and very little preparation had been carried out.
It is thought that due to the Frenchman helping out the promotion in the eleventh hour he has not slipped down the heavyweight pecking order and should square off against a top contender in December.
