Born in Quebec, Canada on 19th May 1981, it seemed that Georges St Pierre was destined to be a champion. His introduction into martial arts was at the age of seven. He took up Karate to defend himself against a school bully. After also learning Brazilian Jui Jitsu, wrestling and boxing he made his UFC debut on 31st January 2004, defeating Karo Parisian via unanimous decision, having dominated Canada’s own TKO promotion.

After a 7 fight win streak, barring the submission loss to Matt Hughes at UFC 50, St Pierre got his title shot in a rematch to Matt Hughes at UFC 65, a shot which he made the most of, winning by TKO at 1:25 of the second round.

Georges continued his domination until he faced a game Matt Serra, an opponent many people looked past seeing him as no real threat. Matt Serra took Georges’ title via TKO a minute and a half from the end of the first round.

Little over a year later, a totally changed and extremely focussed GSP met Serra a second time at UFC 83. All of Georges’ hard work paid off and due to a perfectly implemented game plan, and a barrage of knees to the ribs, he back flipped his way to the title. Thanks to Georges’ talent, athleticism and charisma he is a sure thing for the hall of fame, and will be a strong contender to take Matt Hughes’ “most dominant welterweight of all time” crown.
