Rolando Delgado

Rolando Delgado Interview

Hi Roli,

Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions:

MMABay - Do you feel any added pressure to prove yourself being that you lost last time you fought a Brit?

Delgado – I definitely feel pressure to win since I lost my last fight against Paul Kelly. However I believe that I won the first two rounds, the facts remain the same. It is an L and I could have performed better!

MMABay - Did you switch your training up at all following your loss to Paul Kelly?

Delgado - I did switch up my training, adding more isometric training to assist with my muscular endurance as well as continuing to build more strength and speed. I have to thank Sean Ross at Rossstrengthandspeed.com. I also spent some time at ATT in Florida. I am very thankful for their time and the whole team was great help. Aside from that, I've continued to work my boxing, Muay-Thai and jiu-jitsu as always.

MMABay - Did you expect Paul to react the way he did to you shoving him at the weigh-ins?

Delgado - I didn't expect him to act any certain way. He started trying to drive his forehead into mine at the weigh in. I wasn't about to sit there and see who was stronger. So I had to get him off me. You shouldn't antagonize a fighter right before his fight. I'm not that kind of guy, to go pushing people. Paul should have just posed for the picture.

MMABay - You spent a lot of time in close contact with Junie Browning, what was your reaction to his incident in the hospital?

Delgado - I'm very upset for Junie. He has a good heart but a week mind. He will mature, I hope and could be a very good fighter one day. He is very athletic and does hit hard. I only wish the best for him.

MMABay - Did you watch the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter, and if so what did you think of Andre Winner, both inside and outside of the cage.

Delgado - I didn't really get to watch season 9, although I saw Andre's fights. He is a good fighter in the cage. I was too busy training to watch the actual season so I can't comment on him outside of the cage.

MMABay - Should you get past Andre is there anyone else in the lightweight division you’ve got your eye on?

Delgado - For my fight after Andre, I would like to fight a jiu-jitsu guy. I have been fighting all strikers now for a while and I think it would be fun to test my MMA grappling against another BJJ black belt.

MMABay - How about a rematch with Paul Kelly?

Delgado - I would love a rematch with Paul Kelly. I wouldn't want it to go to the judges again though!

MMABay - What’s your take on the Randy Couture/Brandon Vera fight?

Delgado - The Vera Couture fight is an interesting match up. A GnP dirty boxer vs a great Muay Thai fighter with good jiu--itsu and wrestling. I hope Randy's age doesn't catch up with him. Vera is fast and has great foot work. I don't have a favourite, obviously Randy should get the fight on the mat or against the cage and Vera is going to look to wear him down with leg kicks. I think both are great fighters!

MMABay - Are there any sponsors you’d like to thank?

Delgado - Before I thank my sponsors I'd like to thank the English fans who have been very supportive of me. This will be my 3rd fight in Europe, and though I know the fans will be mostly cheering for Andre, I still have love for em!
I would like to thank Safecastel.net who is a great survival company who has stepped up to support me. Hayabusa, Hoelzer Reich, MMA Warehouse, Clinch Gear, Ross Strength and Speed and Westsidemma.com

MMABay - Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us Roli.
