Jorge Rivera
Jorge Rivera Interview
Hi Jorge,
Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions.
MMABay - First up, you’re just over a month away from returning to the Octagon against Nate Quarry at UFC Fight Night 21; how is your camp going, and are you excited to be back on the main card of a big Spike TV event?
Rivera - Camp is going good... training is picking up right now... things are on point... ready to be back at it...
MMABay - You’re opponent on the 31st is Nate Quarry, another veteran who is coming off an absolute war against Tim Credeur at UFC Fight Night 19. Did you get to see that fight and if so, what were your thoughts on his performance?
Rivera - I did see his last fight... good performance, he's tough, well rounded... makes for a good fight
MMABay - Quarry is known as a guy who comes to stand and bang and you yourself are known as a great striker; will you be looking to go toe-to-toe with Nate? Are there any specific weaknesses of his that you feel you can exploit?Rivera - Yeah man for sure... I don't think either of us is looking to back down... should make for an exciting and entertaining fight
MMABay - You’re on a roll at the moment, coming off two straight wins; where does a victory against Nate Quarry put you in the UFC’s wide open middleweight division?Rivera - Man right now I'm interested in fighting good fights against good opposition... the rest will work itself out
MMABay - You’ve had a lot of fights over here in the UK; is fighting in the UK something you particularly enjoy, or is that just the way the cards have fallen for you?Rivera - No I really enjoy the UK, the fans are rabid and love it... you guys give off great energy and gets the fighters motivated to perform.. .it's good shit for sure...
MMABay - The UFC has been on something of a hiatus from the UK in 2010, but have confirmed that they have one card locked in for later in the year. Do you foresee being asked to fight on that card?Rivera - Can't call the next UK card... day to day with me man... I'll cross this bridge first then look ahead
MMABay - You trained over at Team Sityodtong with Marc Dellagrotte; how much of your success at the highest level of MMA do you credit to your coach and teammates there?
Rivera - I'm no longer at SYT... I'm now with Peter Welch and Tim Burrill... you're only as good as your worst training partner...
MMABay - What do you think is more important for a young guy looking to get into the sport; natural ability or a great camp?Rivera - Teachers... not just a camp but surround yourself with people who have knowledge and have your best interest in mind and heart.
MMABay - Finally, for any new MMA fans who have yet to see you fight; what can we expect from Jorge Rivera on March 31st?
Rivera - On March 31 you can bet I'll be there waiting to go to war with Nate... should be fun to watch for sure...MMABay - Thanks for your time, and the best of luck for March 31st!
