Evan Dunham

Evan Dunham Interview

Hi Evan,

Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions:

MMABay - You’re undefeated in your mixed martial arts career. Does this add any extra pressure to you with each win?

Dunham - Being undefeated doesn't add any additional pressure instead it adds more motivation to train harder so that I will retain my record.

MMABay - You’ve also only gone to a decision once in your career. Does that say something about your style that you (to steal a phrase from Kenny Florian) finish fights at 155?

Dunham - My goal going into every fight is to not leave it in the judges hands. Instead I strive to finish every fight however possible because this is what I and the fans want.

MMABay - How has your training gone at Xtreme Couture for your upcoming UFC 102 showdown with Marcus Aurelio?

Dunham - Training at Xtreme went great I got a solid six weeks of hard training. I feel confident that my cardio and overall skills are above anything in the past. My coaches and training partner have done a great job preparing me for this fight.

MMABay - In your first fight in the UFC, you managed to knockout Per Eklund. What kind of strategy will you be looking to use in this one?

Dunham - My strategy in this fight is simple and that is to keep the fight where ever I feel most comfortable. I am comfortable on every aspect of the game even with his high level ground game as long as I fight smart.

MMABay - Have you worked on a specific game plan to avoid the Jiu-Jitsu game of Aurelio?

Dunham - I try not to change my game plan no matter who I fight. His ground game must be respected so I will be on point when on the ground.

MMABay - If it goes down to the ground, would you feel comfortable fighting there?

Dunham - If then fight goes to the ground I will be more than comfortable there. I feel that I can compete against any high level ground fighter and this is a great opportunity for me to show that.

MMABay - Marcus Aurelio has never been finished in a professional MMA fight, do you feel you could be the first to do this?

Dunham - I do feel that I can be the first to finish him because I plan on pushing him to the point that he can not fight smart and take him out of this comfort zone. At that point if he makes a mistake I plan on capitalizing on it. However I am prepared for a high paced three round fight.

MMABay - Does it help in anyway or give you more confidence fighting on the same card as Randy Couture?

Dunham - Having Randy on the same card does not give me any more confidence because this is my fight. But it is great that he will be here preparing himself and that is motivating.

MMABay - If you get past Aurelio, do you have anyone else in mind that you’d like to take on?

Dunham - After this fight I don't have anyone name that I want to fight. I just want to fight someone with a good name that most fans know.

MMABay - Like we’ve previously mentioned, you train at Xtreme Couture. What’s your take on Randy’s fight with Nogueira?

Dunham - Randy all the way everyone loves him here in Oregon and I believe that he will deliver a big win.

MMABay - Are there any sponsors you’d like to mention?

Dunham - Thanks to all my training partners at Xtreme Couture, Legion BJJ and Team Megaton. Also thanks to Cage Fighter and Oneshot.
