Dan Lauzon Interview
Hi Dan,
Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions.
MMABay - Congratulations on signing a new deal with the UFC. What does it feel like to be heading back inside the octagon?
Dan Lauzon - It feels great, I'm excited. I'm glad to be a part of a show, I know is going to go off. Not to knock Affliction, it was just that they were just starting out and the UFC has already been there, done that, they've been through the struggles and there not going anywhere.
MMABay -How disappointed were you that you had to withdraw from UFC 103 and what’s the extent of the injury?
Dan Lauzon - It was unfortunate, but I feel like everything happens for a reason. I got X-rays, they came back fine. They said there was no spinal damage or nerve damage, which was the best news, They said I had Lumbar Muscle strains in my back. They told me I need to just take time off and let it heal. I was 4 weeks out from 103. I took 4-5 weeks off. I've been in the gym the past 2 weeks and the back feels pretty good. Before training, I make sure I stretch of my back real well and I'm working to strengthen it so something like this doesn't happen in the future.
MMABay -At just 21, you have more experience than a lot of fighters on the UFC’s lightweight roster. Do you feel this gives you an edge in competition?
Dan Lauzon - Not really, everyone is so good nowadays, there's no easy fights out there. Everyone is training hard and pretty much everyone has some sort of experience in something, there are so many wrestlers competing in the UFC that have been competing in wrestling since there were kids, that's experience!!.. I didn't have that.
MMABay -Is there anyone specific you would like to go after in order to cement yourself in the UFC?
Dan Lauzon - Not really, just looking forward to jumping in the mix and finding out where I belong.
MMABay -Should you get a few back to back wins, how do you feel that you would fair amongst the top flight at 155lb? The likes of Penn, Florian, Sanchez, Guida etc?
Dan Lauzon - Whoa, slow down. haha. I have a long ways to go and a lot to learn before I could match up to BJ or Diego, Kenny is great too. Guida is a workhorse, but beatable. But let's slow down. Take it fight by fight.
MMABay -You said before that your nickname “The Upgrade” is a reference to being the evolved version of your brother, Lauzon 2.0. How do you think you would fair up if you two eventually did fight one another?
Dan Lauzon - I don't think people have even seen my potential yet. Joe has a great work ethic, he works his ass off everyday and it shows. I'm talented, but not the best work ethic. It's something I'm constantly trying to work on. If we fought It would be a great fight, It would be a spectacle. Best way to sum it up: “Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard”.
MMABay - Would you like a rematch with Spencer Fisher at some point in your time with the UFC?
Dan Lauzon - At this point it doesn't make a difference to me, when he beat me, I was young and had a chip on my shoulder about the loss, I was embarrassed to lose then, now I realize losing isn't the end of the world. It's when you learn the most. I know who I'm fighting next and when, that's what I’m focusing on. Spencer is fighting Joe Stevenson and I wish him luck.
MMABay -Are there any sponsors you’d like to thank before we finish?
Dan Lauzon - I'd like to thank Sacred Addition Tattoo, SlayingAngels.com, Sprawl, my training partners, coaches, and supporters. Check me out on twitter.com/danyjameslauzon to stay updated on what I'm up too.
THANKSSSSS!!!!!!!(An exclusive interview for MMABay.co.uk)
