Carlos Condit Interview
Hi Carlos,
Thanks for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answering some questions for us
MMABay - You unfortunately lost the tightest of split decisions in April against Martin Kampmann. Have you managed to put this disappointment behind you?
Condit - I was pretty disappointed after that loss. Since then I've tried to use it as a learning experience and grow from it.MMABay - What have you done to step it up since April in order for you to come back as a new and improved “Natural Born Killer”?
Condit - I have tightened up my boxing quite a bit and worked on my wrestling. Also, I've worked on sticking to my game plan more.MMABay - You were originally set to face Chris Lytle on the UFC Fight Night 19 card but he suffered an injury. How difficult has it been to switch focus mid training camp?
Condit - Not too hard at all. I was preparing for a war against Lytle. Nothing has changed much. Ellenberger is game fighter and I expect a hell of a fight from him as well.MMABay - Are you disappointed at all that you won’t be showcasing your skills against a more established and recognisable name in the UFC?
Condit - I didn't think about it too much. Ellenberger was the fight they gave me. I was just happy to still be on the card after Chris got hurt.MMABay - How much do you know about your new opponent for your UFC Fight Night 19 fight, Jake Ellenberger?
Condit - I've watched some video on him. I know he is a pretty solid wrestler with good striking.MMABay - How do you think you match up with him skills wise and what are your keys for victory?
Condit - I think it could be a tough fight for me, but they all are these days. I need to use my reach and not stand right in front of him. Also, I cant let him hold me down too much, if I get taken down I need to pop right back up.MMABay - Will you be looking to make a real statement in this one to make the fans of the UFC sit up and take notice?
Condit - I definitely hope to get back on a win streak, and this is the first step. I feel great going into this fight. My training camp has been awesome, and I'm ready to do what I do best.MMABay - If you get past Ellenberger, do you have anyone else in mind that you’d like to take on, or expect to take on?
Condit - Not really sure, I'm just trying to take it one fight at a time.
MMABay - Where do you think you will fit in as far as the title picture goes in one years time?
Condit - I feel like I'm coming into my prime and if I can keep my focus I should be well on my way.
MMABay - MMABay is a UK based website. What do you think to the clutch of welterweights we have over here like Dan Hardy, Paul Daley and Paul Taylor and would you like to face anyone of them in the future?
Condit - All of those guys are great fighters. I'd be excited to go up against any one of them.
MMABay - Are there any sponsors you would like to mention?
Condit - I'd like to thank Tapout for the support. Check out my signature shirt at Tapout.com(An exclusive interview for MMABay.co.uk)
