Wanderlei Silva Interview
MMABay sat down this week with former PRIDE FC middleweight champion, Brazilian MMA legend, Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva. We asked him for his thoughts on a possible fight with Anderson Silva, his good friend, Demain Maia’s title hopes, Chuck Liddell’s retirement and about his fight with Rich Franklin at UFC 99 in June.
In the interview we asked him if he felt he was the man to push UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva all the way?
“I think it’s possible I beat him, I know about his style, I know his techniques and I am a very dangerous opponent for him.”
We asked him whether he would like to see good friend and training partner, Demain Maia get a UFC middleweight title shot before he does?
“I think it’s his time, he never loses. I think it’s his time to fight for the belt. I think he is the next challenger. I want to see him fight with Anderson but its Dana Whites decision.”
On the possibility of former UFC light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell could retire, Wanderlei said:
“He’s a legend, everybody wants a fight with him. I think it’s possible he will fight some more, he don’t need to retire now. He’s lost to Rashad, who is the champion and he lose to “Shogun” who is a phenomenal fighter. It’s possible he could fight some other fighters, he don’t need to stop.”
And on his UFC 99 clash with former middleweight champion, Rich “Ace” Franklin, Silva said:
“This is a very, very important fight for me. It will be my first fight in a new division and I’m going to fight in the main event, in the first event in Germany and it’s so important that I give a good impression and I have a good performance for the fans in Germany.”
“I love to fight in the main event in the UFC, it is a dream of all fighters and for me too and for this, I’m training hard, I’m training all (disciplines), I’m training a lot, I have good training partners now and I’m looking on the day to give a good performance for my fans.”
