Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva Interview

Hi Thiago,

Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions:

MMABay - You were scheduled to fight Forrest Griffin at UFC 101 and now that fight has been changed as the UFC have matched Anderson Silva with Forrest Griffin. When did you find out about this and what are your thoughts?

Thiago - My manager Alex informed me of the change, and I am an employee of the UFC, and coming from a loss I am not in a position to demand anything, just do my job and start winning again.

MMABay - You are now set to face Keith Jardine who is also a top contender at 205lb at UFC 102. Do you feel this fight will be just as good for your career if you win as the Forrest one would have been?

Thiago - Of course, the man has a different fighting style, is a top contender, is tough, and we will definitely have a great fight.

MMABay - How do you think your styles will match up and where do you think you can beat him?

Thiago - Certainly, a lot of things are going to coincide, especially in the striking area,  but my strategy to defeat him is something you will only be able to see during the actual fight.

MMABay - Due to the fact you were supposed to fight Forrest Griffin and are now fighting Keith Jardine and in your last fight fought Lyota Machida, do you think that the UFC are recognizing that you are potentially a top contender in the light heavy-weight division with who they are matching you up with?

Thiago - definitely, my goal is to conquer the light heavy-weight title belt, and knowing that the UFC still believes in me, even after my first defeat, gives me the strength to train hard and try to fix some of my mistakes that became clear to me in my last fight.

MMABay - After you fight Keith Jardine is there anyone within the 205lb division that you would like to fight?

Thiago - No, I don’t chose the athlete, I just fight whoever they put me up against.

MMABay - Can you talk a little about how long you’ve been doing MMA and what disciplines you’re trained in?

Thiago - It has been 5 years since I went to Sao Paulo to train at the Macaco Gold Team, when I got there my main strength was on the ground, but it was there that I began training boxing, Muay Thai and wrestling.

MMABay - Have you begun your training camp at American Top Team for UFC 102 yet?

Thiago - Yes, the training is tough, and we are aiming to polish my technique with physical preparation and group training.

MMABay - In your last fight you lost to Lyota Machida which is no bad thing. Did you feel like everyone else has felt that has fought him that his style of fighting was difficult to counter?

Thiago - The guy has skill,  I thought his style wouldn’t be able to really rock me but two minutes into the fight I realized that I had already lost my head.

MMABay - Would you like the opportunity to avenge your only loss to Machida and if so what would you do differently?

Thiago - I had never lost before, and I’ve got to say it was a bad feeling, but one day we will definitely face each other again, but what I would do differently?  Only at the time of such a fight will I know, but I would definitely need a good strategy, because he fights exploiting the weaknesses and errors of his opponents.

MMABay - Are there any sponsors you would like to mention before we finish?

Thiago - No, I just want to thank my fans, and ATT

MMABay - Thanks again Thiago.
