Ryan Bader Interview
Hi Ryan,
Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions:
MMABay - How are you doing?
Ryan - Doing well, I tore my MCL and PCL in the fight so I am just trying to rehab my knee and trying to keep in shape by swimming and doing some upper body stuff. Basically just enjoying some time off.
MMABay - We noticed that you went to see the doctor recently about your knee injury. Can you tell us what the latest is?
Ryan - Well I completely tore my MCL off the bone and also tore my PCL. Luckily I don’t have to get surgery so that is a good thing. I am out for a good six weeks but definitely a lot better than tearing my ACL.
MMABay - How long do you and the doctors think you will be out for?
Ryan - Well I am walking now without assistance and am starting physical therapy this week to keel my range of motion and to keep my muscles surrounding the knee strong. The doc said about six weeks before I can start using it full go such as wrestling and doing jiu-jitsu on it.
MMABay - You’ve proved to the rest of the division how tough you are having blown your knee and still pulled off the win. How bitter/sweet is that night for you?
Ryan - It was nice to get the win, It didnt go exactly the way I wanted it to but cant complain too much. I will be back soon so I am not too worried about it at all. Just want to get back in the gym, its making me depressed!MMABay - Do you have anyone one in mind for your next fight, someone to prove yourself against possibly?
Ryan - Honestly I know its cliche but I am taking these fights one at a time and just focusing on the fight in front of me. I have no beef with anybody and really do not care who I get next, just looking forward to getting back in the gym and working on getting better and better everyday.
MMABay - Having come through The Ultimate Fighter last year, have you had chance to watch this seasons premiere and was it strange for you to watch
Ryan - I enjoy watching the Ultimate Fighter, I have watched most of the seasons. I usually have a vested interest because in all but one of the seasons I have known one of the fighters so its nice to see how they do and how they handle the show and the stresses of it. It is a little more interesting watching it this season knowing the ins and outs of how the show works.
MMABay - What do you think of the new batch of fighters coming through and are there any that stand out as ones to watch?
Ryan - I have only seen the UK fighters on the first episode and thought there are some very tough fighters in that batch. I have the other episode Tivo'd and have to go back and watch. I am sure there are some studs this year.
MMABay - You were one of Nogueira’s students on the show, how do you think he will do against Randy?
Ryan - I dont think it is the best match up for Nogueira but I think he will do just fine. Nogueira is an amazing fighter and person with tremendous heart. I can see him getting a submission in this fight.MMABay - Are there any sponsors you’d like to thank?
Ryan - Yes I have a very cool sponsor in Klenztowel.com. What I like about this sponsor is that they are helping out the troops. It is basically a huge wet wipe that is antibacterial, alcohol free, etc. Its for the troops to basically take a shower where there is no running water. So if anybody is interested go to the website and send a box to the troops, they and myself would really appreciate it. Also check out RyanBader.com and check out videos of training, blogs, etc.MMABay - Thanks again Ryan
