Nate Quarry Interview

Hi Nate,

Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABAY and answer a few of our questions:

Mmabay - After a near two year layoff since the Rich Franklin fight, how good is it to be back in more regular competition, fighting Pete Sell in September and your fight at UFC 83?

Nate - It was a long time coming but I feel I've emerged a stronger, more intelligent fighter. I have incredible coaches striving to make me the best fighter I can be and it shows with each fight.

Mmabay - How do you feel you match-up today with the likes of Anderson Silva, Franklin and Henderson?

Nate - Time will tell. I feel we have a very tough division. There aren't too many other weight classes that have so many champions floating around. I'm just trying to take it one fight at a time and move forward.

Mmabay - Did Kalib Starnes speak to you after your fight at UFC 83 and explain his actions and how much did this fight frustrate you, not being able to showcase your skills?

Nate - I didn't see him after we left the cage. The most frustrating thing was I loved being able to tell people every fight I've had in the UFC has ended with knock out... I just didn't tell them I was the victim in one :-) I felt I made the best I could out of the situation and tried to take a negative and build a positive.

Mmabay - Have you been contacted about a fight in the coming months and who would you like to fight next?

Nate - I haven't been contacted yet and don't really have any thoughts on upcoming guys. Last thing I want to do is call someone out and get them pissed at me :-)

Mmabay - Did you ever feel like hitting Bobby Southworth during the first season of the Ultimate Fighter with your crutch?

Nate - I felt like hitting just about everybody on that show at one time or another with my crutch. It's amazing how quickly people forget that the world is going to see their actions and they will be branded a long time by them. That being said, the pressure in the house is unbelievable. It's a pressure cooker with no way to relieve stress so it's no wonder people end up going a little crazy.

Mmabay - Thanks again for the time you have afforded us, would you like to say anything to anyone before we wrap it up?

Nate - Just thanks to my sponsors Sprawl Shorts, MMA Warehouse, Metabolic Adaptation and especially Nuvasive who rebuilt my back and made it possible for me to fight again.

Mmabay - Thanks again Nate.
