Mike Brown

Mike Brown Interview

Hi Mike,

Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions:

MMABay - You’re the current WEC 145 pound champion. How does it feel to be the champ after all those years of sacrifice on the local circuit?

Mike - Feels great it was all worth it.

MMABay - You looked incredible in your last fight (first title defence). Was it a great satisfaction to win in devastating fashion after doubters had said that you were lucky to beat former champ Faber?

Mike - I just have to keep winning. I can’t concern myself with negative people. There will always be those people. Even if you’re Fedor Emelianenko, you have people saying you’re no good.

MMABay - You are known as a devastating finisher of fights, with six of your last nine ending in the first round. How important to cementing your legacy at 145 pounds is the fact that you win so decisively?

Mike - Winning quickly makes you a fan favourite. This is not just a sport. It’s also entertainment. I don’t just want to win, I also want to entertain the fans.

MMABay - You are set to face the man who you took the belt from Urijah Faber in a rematch on June 7th. How is your training camp going for this massive fight?

Mike - Training is great. I have so many great guys to work out with at ATT. JZ is getting ready. Yves is always here for me. Kami just came in to help with my wrestling. Ouali Mohammed is now in Belgium, but I worked with him for a week while I was in Canada. He is an amazing striking coach. Besides that,  I’m working a lot with Marcos “Parrumpina”, Liborio, Cha Cha and Coach Howard. We have so much talent here.

MMABay - How do you see the fight going, especially considering it’s in his backyard of Sacramento, California?

Mike - It doesn’t matter where we fight. I could be fighting a Martian on the moon. Once they shut the gate you are all alone in there.

MMABay - You train at American Top Team. Who is the toughest training partner out of that camp?

Mike - Well everyone has thier own specialty. We have guys like Marcelo Garcia, Tagarella, or Aurelio who are the best BJJ guys in the world. We have some great strikers like Pitbull or Yves and we also have great well rounded guys like JZ… So the toughest is a hard question.

MMABay - Do you have any desire in the future to move up to 155 and the UFC lightweight division or are you going to stay with the WEC?

Mike - I just want big fights at this point in my career… 135-145 or 155. I just want big fights.

MMABay - Urijah has spoken in the past about facing B.J. Penn down the road. Would a future fight with the UFC lightweight champ interest you?

Mike - Yes it would. I just want big fights. Win or lose I just want to entertain the crowd… entertain and get paid!!!

MMABay - Are there any sponsors you’d like to thank before we finish?

Mike - Champion Nutrition for keeping me lean and mean. Tapout for keeping me looking sharp, and Bushmasters for supporting me and putting Wyndham Maine on the MAP!!!

MMABay - Thanks again Mike
