Denis Kang Interview
Hi Denis,
Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions:
MMABay - Firstly congratulations on your victory at UFC 97. Did the victory feel all the more sweeter as you grew up in Vancouver British Columbia?
Denis - Yes it was great to fight in Canada. I had so many friends and family there and felt very relaxed.
MMABay - Your fans had wondered if they would ever see you compete inside the UFC’s octagon. What made you finally join up with the biggest MMA promotion in the world after all these years?
Denis - Well the negotiations were going great and it was on the advice from my manager.
MMABay - You are a very well rounded fighter, you are a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black belt but are as strong striking what do you prefer to do keep fights standing or go to the ground?
Denis - I like the ground a little better but there is nothing like the feeling of getting a KO.
MMABay - You have had an incredible career that has seen you fight 46 times and you are still only 31 do you still feel as hungry now as you were when you first started?
Denis - The hunger is definitely still there and the sport only gets more fun as you get more experienced. Everyday that I train I realize how little I really know about MMA.
MMABay - You’ve said you would like a little time off after UFC 97, but when you return to action is there anyone at 185 you would like to take on in your next fight?
Denis - There is nobody specific but I want to climb the latter and to become a champion. I would rather fight someone with a win.
MMABay - How many fights away from a title shot do you think you are?
Denis - I don’t know it depends on who I beat.
MMABay - Anderson Silva has looked untouchable at 185 since he joined the UFC are you the man to finally dethrone him from the middleweight title?
Denis - I hope so. I think that a lot of his success is due to the fact that many of his opponents are intimidated by him. But he is human and can be beaten.
MMABay - You have trained with Thiago Alves and George St Pierre how do you see this fight going at UFC 100?
Denis - Both these guys are at the top of their division right now and there is no doubt that they will come in top shape. I think this may be fight of the year.
MMABay - Thanks again Denis
