Aleksander Emelianenko arrested by police after allegedly beating up a man at a cafe

October 24, 2013 All MMA News, UFC  Comments

Aleksander Emelianenko, the brother of formerly ranked number one heavyweight in the world Fedor Emelianenko, has been arrested by police after allegedly beating up a man at a Moscow café, although further details about the incident are sketchy at best.

Aleksander EmelianenkoThis from Ria.ru:

Russian police have detained mixed martial arts star Alexander Emelianenko on suspicion of beating up a man in a Moscow cafe, an official said Thursday.

The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said, after a dispute Wednesday in a cafe in southeastern Moscow. A hunt was launched for the 31-year-old fighter, who was subsequently taken in for questioning, police said.

Speaking Thursday, Emelianenko’s lawyer denied the allegations. “There was no assault, there was just a conflict that ended in a fight,” he said.

Recently he had been on a four-fight winning streak before getting tapped out by veteran, Jeff Monson via North-South choke in November. Rumours of a positive Hepatitis B test have dogged his career in recent years. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on this breaking situation as we get it.
