Dana White confirms Lyoto Machida impressed enough to be handed the next shot at light heavyweight gold
UFC President, Dana White has tonight confirmed former light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida impressed enough during his UFC on FOX 4 co-main event outing against Ryan Bader in Los Angeles, California, to deserve another shot at the 205 pound title.
The head of the Las Vegas based promotion said Machida seems to have a fire in his belly right now and is determined to re-capture the gold he held just a couple of years ago. It was also noted that Machida is the only fighter to have won a round against the current champion.
First up will come UFC 151 on September 1st in Las Vegas, Nevada, where current champion, Jon Jones will defend his title against veteran of the sport, Dan Henderson. The winner of that will face “The Dragon” likely early on in 2013 which will no doubt be an interesting affair.
