Josh Barnett predicts Daniel Cormier will knock Frank Mir out in the second round, welcomes a return to the UFC ranks
Former UFC heavyweight champion, Josh Barnett has been giving his thoughts on the recently announced fight between Strikeforce grand-prix winner, Daniel Cormier and another former champion of the octagon, Frank Mir, as well as his thoughts on a potential return to the ranks of the biggest promotion in the world.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Barnett said:
“I think ‘DC’ takes him out within two rounds. He’s such a tough, physical, well-conditioned and just smart fighter. I think Frank is coming off a loss, and I don’t think that his style matches up that well with ‘DC.’ Frank has got that X-factor in his submission game. But I think ‘DC’ is one of the top four fighters in the world right now.”
Barnett then spoke about the potential of seeing him return to the octagon, something he would clearly welcome judging by his comments.
“Line ‘em up. It doesn’t really make a difference who shows up, they’ve all got to go. I think every MMA promotion in the world needs a guy like me. The UFC needs people that can not only fight, but also be able to capture the audience’s attention and expand that market. Nobody can fill that void like I do.”
Barnett made the Strikeforce heavyweight grand-prix final after defeating Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov inside the distance via submission. That run came to an end when he lost via decision in the final to powerhouse wrestler, Daniel Cormier in what turned out to be a rather one sided affair. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on his future as we get it.
