UFC on FOX 4 – After two-and-a-half-years away Mike Swick not taking any chances with injuries
UFC welterweight veteran, Mike Swick has been giving his thoughts on his UFC on FOX 4 clash with DaMarques Johnson set for August 4th in Los Angeles, California, explaining he’s not taking any risks in training after two-and-a-half-years away from the octagon due to injury.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Swick said:
“When you’ve fought as much as I have, you don’t like sitting on the sidelines for two-and-a-half years. I just want to get in there and do my job. You have to train. I mean, that’s just the bottom line. It sucks because we train really hard, and you can’t predict when these injuries is going to happen. But we did, in this fight camp, take a lot of precautions that we haven’t taken in the past.”
“You’ve got to take your chances, but we’re calculating them so we take them at the right time, and for the right reasons. Honestly, I feel like this is going to be my first fight at welterweight.”
Swick hasn’t fought in a massive 31 months due to illness and injuries, plaguing his career and stopping his progress in the welterweight division. He most recently suffered back-to-back losses at the hands of Dan Hardy and Paulo Thiago. Johnson has alternated between wins and losses over his past six fights and lost last time out to John Maguire on the UFC on FUEL TV 2 card.
