Dana White reveals he had to ask Quinton Jackson to honour his current UFC contract
UFC President, Dana White has this week revealed how he had to ask former light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to honour his current contract with the Las Vegas based promotion after the charismatic character had demanded his release.
Speaking to a small group of reporters following UFC 149, Dana said:
“Me and Rampage had this conversation and he said, ‘Cut me from my contract right now,’ And I said, ‘Dude, we’ve had your back every step of the way, we’ve honored every contract that we’ve ever had with you – honor yours.’ He said, ‘That’s true. You’re right. I will honor my contract.’”
“Rampage loves us one minute and hates us the next, loves the sport one minute and hates it the next. don’t dislike or hate him. It’s up to him. It’s his life. It’s not one of these things where I’m like, ‘Oh, God, Rampage, don’t do this.’ It’s Rampage’s life. If you decide you don’t want to be here anymore, we’re not going to hold you down and keep you do it.”
Jackson has suffered back-to-back defeats inside the octagon after dropping a fourth round submission to champion, Jon Jones and a unanimous decision to “Ultimate Fighter” season eight winner, Ryan Bader. Prior to that he’d won four of five inside the octagon. He’ll face dangerous Brazilian, Glover Teixeira at UFC 153 on October 13th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
