UFC 149: Faber vs. Barao results, updates and live play-by-play TONIGHT on MMABay!!!
MMABay will be coming to you LIVE from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, tonight, the scene of UFC 149, in order to bring you all the action from the Scotiabank Saddledome where UFC bantamweight contenders, Urijah Faber and Renan Barao compete for the interim title in the main event of the evening.

We’ll be covering the entire card, top-to-bottom, from the co-main event clash between middleweights, Hector Lombard and Tim Boetsch to the preliminary card battle between Mitch Clarke and Anton Kuivanen. UFC 149 play-by-play live main card commentary:
Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao (135-pound division limit)
Round one: Faber flurries forward but gets caught. Barao is clearly targeting the legs early, something that is supported by his managers pre-fight remarks. Faber is struggling to get near the Brazilian at this point. Spinning back kick from Barao almost lands. Nice knee to the body by Barao as he starts to get loose. Tough round to call as neither man have really got their game going. Barao backs out of danger to end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Barao.
Round two: Barao is pushing forward in the second round, looking much more aggressive. Barao gets poked in the eye. The action resumes and Barao turns it up, leaping in with a knee and a wild combination. Nice right hand from Faber. Hard leg kick from Barao. Barao is going to work with his kicks and misses with one to the head by a whisker. Big leg kick from Barao again lands and Faber has started to limp. Another big leg kick from Barao. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Barao.
Round three: Big combination by Barao as he goes to the legs and then boxes to the head. Faber shoots in but it’s stuffed. Front kick from Faber dumps Barao to his back. Faber lands with a right hand as he starts to have a little success. Barao goes back to the legs. Faber shoots in but he’s not close to completing it. Nice uppercut from Faber but Barao answers. Hard leg kick from Barao hurts Faber clearly. Barao is picking Faber apart from distance. Faber just doesn’t seem to be able to get near Barao and certainly isn’t extending his punches. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Barao.
Round four: Barao continues to pick Faber apart from distance. Could we be seeing a changing of the guard at the top of the 135 pound tree? This could be Faber’s last title shot based on this performance. Faber steps in and lands a right hand but is poked in the eye. The action resumes. The two men exchange and Faber lands a right hand. Barao continues to march forward, landing nice combinations followed by a head kick. Barao goes back to the legs. Barao goes to the body and to the head with left hooks. Faber looks for a takedown but it’s blocked and Barao lands a knee. Nice left hand from Faber connects. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Barao.
Round five: Faber comes out looking intense but Barao meets him with an equal level. Nice counter left from Barao followed by a leg kick. Faber catches the kick but he can’t take the Brazilian to the ground. Faber jabs nicely. Big kick from Barao before flurrying in. Vicious left hook from Barao lands. Superman punch from Faber lands over the top. Big chopping leg kick from Barao. Nice left hook from Barao as he turns it up. Big left hand from Barao. Spining kick misses from Barao. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Barao.
Final result: Renan Barao, unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 49-46).
Hector Lombard vs. Tim Boetsch (185-pound division limit)
Round one: Low kick from Boetsch early. Boetsch throws a couple of kicks up the middle but Lombard is just waiting for the opportunity to exchange. Boetsch looks for a takedown but Lombard stuffs it and punishes him. Lombard pushes forward and takes control up against the fence before securing a takedown. Boetsch works his way back to his feet but eats a knee. Boetsch jumps in with a punch and the two flurry. Left hand fired in by Lombard. Boetsch again looks for the takedown but fails. Nice low kick lands from Boetsch. Boetsch with a nice front kick before shooting in. Lombard unsurprisingly stuffs it. Nice leg kick again from Boetsch. Strange round from Lombard. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Boetsch.
Round two: Nice leg kick from Boetsch knocks Lombard off balance as he looks to move in. Nice left hand from Lombard over the top. Nice couple of punches land from Lombard backing Boetsch up. Big exchange but both men miss. Leg kick from Boetsch lands, and another. The two begin to exchange kicks. Body kick from Lombard seems to hurt Boetsch and the Cuban smells blood. Lombard forces Boetsch to his knees but he soon scrambles back to his feet. The two grapple for a takedown and Boetsch is the one to force the fight to the ground. Lombard pops straight back up and presses Boetsch up against the fence. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Lombard.
Round three: Lombard very passive again in this third round. The two exchange kicks, Boetsch going to the legs and Lombard to the body. Nice combination from Lombard lands. Boetsch goes back to the legs. Nice flurry from Boetsch. Boetsch looks for an elbow and misses. The two continue to kick away at each other. Boetsch looks for the takedown but it’s stuffed easily. Lombard looks for a trip but ends up on the bottom. Both men pop back up with Lombard swinging wildly. Boetsch with a leg kick before pressing forward. Lombard earns a takedown but Boetsch pops back up and lands a knee to the body. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Boetsch.
Final result: Tim Boetsch, split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
Cheick Kongo vs. Shawn Jordan (265-pound division limit)
Round one: Kongo takes the center of the octagon and pumps out his jab. Leg kick from Kongo lands. Kongo flurries forward but Jordan reverses him and presses the action up against the fence. Kongo defends the takedown with under-hooks and knees to the body. Kongo spins and takes the back of Jordan, throwing a strike in the process. Low blow from Jordan lands. It appears to be a nasty elbow to the groin of the Frenchman. The action continues. Head kick from Kongo before clinching with Jordan. Kongo backs away. Nice right hand from Kongo on the way into the clinch. Kongo presses the action up against the fence as he keeps the pressure on the prospect. Jordan turns things around and looks for the takedown. Kongo hammers away to the face to defend. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kongo.
Round two: Nice knee on the way in by Kongo who clinches up against the fence. The two men exchange positions up against the fence but it’s Kongo landing the better strikes from this position. Kongo breaks free and throws a big right followed by a knee. The two engage in the clinch again and exchange knees. Kongo drops for a takedown but Jordan steps away. Big right hands landed by Kongo before he clinches. The two continue to exchange positions up against the cage before Kongo takes the back once again. Jordan recovers position but he can’t get Kongo off of him. Kongo gets the takedown but winds up slipping off after making a mistake. Jordan catches Kongo with a couple of strikes before the bell. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kongo.
Round three: The two exchange big blows but the knees of Kongo seem to be the difference. Jordan ties Kongo up in the clinch but eats a bunch of knees. Kongo takes the back once again standing before Jordan recovers position. Another knee from Kongo lands. The two separate and Kongo lands a right hand before clinching once again. The two exchange before Kongo ties Jordan up and lands a big knee. It’s not pretty but it is effective by Kongo. More knees from Kongo to the body. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kongo.
Final result: Cheick Kongo, unanimous decision (30-28, 30-27, 30-27).
Brian Ebersole vs. James Head (170-pound division limit)
Round one: Ebersole shoots in immediately and Head defends it. Both men return to the feet. Ebersole shoots in again and once again Head defends and we’re back to the feet. Big knees from Head in the clinch. Head shakes off another takedown attempt. Head goes to the body before switching to knees and elbows in the clinch. Nice combination from Ebersole ends with a left to the jaw. The two exchange before Ebersole shoots in again. Head defends nicely. Head snatches a guillotine but Ebersole works his way free. Ebersole in half-guard with just over a minute remaining. Head almost with a sweep. Big punch from Ebersole before Head shoves him off. Cartwheel kick from Ebersole goes wrong and Head winds up on top pounding away to the bell. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Ebersole.
Round two: Ebersole shoots but Head defends. The two return to the feet and Ebersole throws down. Head stalks Ebersole back to the cage but Ebersole lands a nice straight left-hand. The two men clinch and Head lands a knee to the body. Double under-hooks for Ebersole but he fails to drag the fight to the ground. Head swings for the fences but doesn’t really land anything significant. Ebersole shots in but Head defends. Nice uppercut from Ebersole lands. Nice right hand from Head in the clinch. Body shot from Head before landing a fluch knee to the face. Ebersole manages to secure a takedown, winding up in the guard of Head. Thirty seconds remaining. Shoulder strikes from Ebersole. Nice sweep from Head before moving to half-guard. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Ebersole.
Round three: Ebersole shoots but it’s stuffed again. Nice right hand from Head. Ebersole shoots but Head stuffs it and looks to take the back. Ebersole defends and the two return to the feet. Another takedown attempt by Ebersole is stuffed. Nice combination from Head ends in a knee to the body. Nice left hand from Head followed by a knee to the body. Head takes the back of Ebersole and looks to control but Ebersole reverses it and forces his opponent to scramble back to his feet. Ebersole shoots in again but it’s easily stuffed. Hard to score a round like this. Another shot from Ebersole but no dice. Body kick from Ebersole, answered by a combination from Head. Head rolls for a D’Arce but winds up in his back eating hammer-fists with fifteen seconds to go. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Ebersole.
Final result: James Head, split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
Chris Clements vs. Matt Riddle (170-pound division limit)
Round one: Tentative start by both men to begin the fight. Riddle shoots in and secures a tripped takedown. Clements works his way back to his feet but not before Riddle lands a couple of punches. Riddle continues to push forward with punches before finishing with a leg kick. Elbow from Clements followed by a knee. Riddle pins Clements on the fence for a moment. Clements with a nice right hand before Riddle clinches and throws the knees. Body kick by Riddle lands which seems to hurt Clements. The referee thought it was a low blow and decides to get between the two men. Crazy! Riddle with a tripped takedown and begins to drop elbows from the guard. Riddle moves to half-guard before throwing a knee as Clements gets back to his feet. Riddle drags the fight to the ground before taking the back of Clements. Riddle moves to side control before letting Clements back up. Clements with a nice right hand. Riddle shoots in to end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Riddle.
Round two: Riddle looks to land that body kick again but it’s blocked. Spinning back-fist from Clements. Riddle looks for the takedown up against the fence but almost gets reversed. Riddle completes it and takes the back of Clements. Riddle wails away from behind whilst keeping control with a body triangle. Riddle spins to side-control when it seemed easier to lock up an head and arm-triangle choke. Scramble and Clements manages to work his way back to his feet and breaks free. Powerful body kick by Clements. Nice right hand from Clements before sprawling to avoid the takedown. Riddle on his back and Clements drops a bunch of big punches to end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Riddle.
Round three: Clements wades in and lands a big strike to the body. Clements pins Riddle on the fence before moving away. Riddle with a head kick but Clements smiles. Riddle with a tripped takedown. Clements gets to his feet but eats a knee on the way up. Standing arm-triangle from Riddle before forcing Clements to the ground. Clements taps.
Final result: Matt Riddle, submission (head/arm-triangle), 3rd round.
UFC 149 play-by-play live preliminary card commentary:
Court McGee vs. Nick Ring (185-pound division limit)
Round one: McGee lands a head kick early but it was with the toes. McGee with a nice low kick. McGee over the top with a left hook counter. Ring needs to settle down. Ring looks for the takedown but McGee stuffs it. Again Ring shoots in but he’s not close to dragging it to the ground. Nice left hook from McGee. Ring is throwing a lot of gauging kicks which are leaving him in a position to be countered. Left hook by Ring before following up with a straight left to the jaw. McGee presses forward. Nice combination from McGee. Hard leg kicks from McGee end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 McGee.
Round two: McGee looks to cut Ring off as the pair circle the octagon. The two men exchange leg kicks. McGee looks for the takedown but it’s not even close. The two men tie up and exchange from the clinch. Nice combination from McGee lands, soon followed by a head-kick. McGee lands with an uppercut as he continues to push the pace and test the cardio of Ring. Ring lands a left hand which backs McGee up. Another stinging left from Ring lands. Ring is picking McGee apart all of a sudden. McGee with a nice combination before failing to get the fight to the ground. McGee clichés and looks for the takedown again but he fails to get it. MMABay scores the round 10-9 McGee.
Round three: McGee with an early flurry. McGee is really upping the pace in this final round as he comes forward landing combination after combination. Ring is struggling to get off and is throwing single shots. Spinning back-kick from McGee. McGee pours it on and Ring looks to be in trouble with two minutes remaining. McGee is swarming Ring. Ring with a left hand catches McGee coming in. McGee continues to come forward, landing at will as he mixes it up with punches and kicks. Ring shoots for a takedown but it’s stuffed and McGee looks for a guillotine. Ring takes top postion and ride it out till the bell. MMABay scores the round 10-9 McGee.
Final result: Nick Ring, unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Roland Delorme vs. Francisco Rivera (135-pound division limit)
Round one: Delorme comes out firing but is backed up by an uppercut from Rivera. Rivera with a nice combination forces Delorme to cover up and circle away. Head kick from Rivera is blocked. Nice combination from Rivera ends in a hard leg kick. Rivera with a series of uppercuts as Delorme looks for the takedown. Front-kick to the face by Rivera as he puts on a clinic. Rivera whips in a couple of big leg kicks. Delorme needs to take the fight to the ground. Nice knee from Delorme before landing a right hand. Rivera comes back with a right of his own before finishing with a leg kick. Delorme rushes in and Rivera lands a big left hook. Delorme drops and Rivera pounds him out.
Final result: Francisco Rivera, (T)KO, 1st round.
Ryan Jimmo vs. Anthony Perosh (205-pound division limit)
Round one: Jimmo backs Perosh up to the cage. Big overhand right from Jimmo flattens Perosh. One more on the ground and that’s it folks. Seven seconds.
Final result: Ryan Jimmo, (T)KO, 1st round.
Bryan Caraway vs. Mitch Gagnon (135-pound division limit)
Round one: Nice right hand from Caraway before following up with a left hook. Caraway again lands the right hand before Gagnon shoots in and eventually takes the fight to the ground. Both men exchange positions before Gagnon postures up in the guard and lands decent ground and pound. Caraway with an arm-bar which is tight but Gagnon escapes. Big ground and pound from Gagnon does massive damage but Caraway is somehow hanging on. Caraway gets back to his feet but Gagnon stays on him in the clinch up against the fence. Gagnon puts Caraway on his back a couple of times but he pops back to his feet. Caraway with the takedown and he moves to half-guard. Caraway mounts with ten seconds remaining as he drops elbows. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Gagnon.
Round two: Gagnon with a nice leg kick early before the two exchange with the hands. Big shots from Gagnon lands. Gagnon pins Caraway on the fence and unloads with punches and knees. Caraway hangs on but Gagnon breaks free and unloads again. Caraway looks for a guillotine as the fight hits the ground before taking his opponents back. Caraway has full back-mount before moving to the mount, dropping punches as he goes. Gagnon rolls and Caraway takes his back again. Caraway looks for the choke but Gagnon escapes, spins and takes his opponents back. Caraway shakes him off and the two men return to the feet. Gagnon looks tired. Big knee lands from Gagnon. Gagnon stuffs the takedown to end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Caraway.
Round three: Gagnon misses with a big left to begin the third. Caraway looks for the takedown after wading in and gets it. Again he takes the back as Gagnon looks to stand. Caraway triangles his legs. Gagnon looks to escape but Caraway uses the opportunity to lock up the choke and finish the fight.
Final result: Bryan Caraway, submission (rear-naked choke), 3rd round.
Antonio Carvalho vs. Daniel Pineda (145-pound division limit)
Round one: Pineda pushes forward early and looks to land a leg kick. Big exchange as Carvalho lands a nice combination. Pineda comes forward but Carvalho catches and drops him. Carvalho takes control with a front head-lock but Pineda gets back to his feet. Carvalho catches Pineda again with a nice shot. The two circle. Big counter uppercut from Carvalho lands following a head-kick and Pineda is out.
Final result: Antonio Carvalho, (T)KO, 1st round.
Mitch Clarke vs. Anton Kuivanen (155-pound division limit)
Round one: Both men come out jabbing as they engage on the feet. Clarke lands a left hand before looking to take the fight to the ground. Kuivanen does well to stave off the grappling attack as he gets his back against the cage. Kuivanen gets back to his feet but Clarke dumps him back to the ground. Clarkes takes control in half-guard. Kuivanen get back to his feet before securing a takedown of his own. Clarke recovers guard. Clarke gets his feet on the hips and looks to attack with an arm-bar. Kuivanen slips out. Clarke attacks with a deep arm-bar, rolling Kuivanen to his back, but lets go in favour of top position. Clarke takes Kuivanen’s back. Kuivanen shakes his opponent off and recovers guard. Clarke ends the round on top. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Clarke.
Round two: The two men begin the second round with thirty seconds exchanging tentatively on the feet before Clarke looks for a takedown. Clarke looks for a takedown and secures a single leg. Kuivanen scrambles and secures top position but Clarke attacks with a kimura and retakes top position. Both men look to stand but Kuivanen drags Clarke back down as he has hold of his neck. Kuivanen looks for a choke but Clarke survives and gets back to his feet. This time Kuivanen rolls Clarke with the kimura and winds up in top position. Kuivanen looks to stand but Clarke has hold of a knee-bar. Kuivanen drops to the ground after eating an up-kick to the face and both men look for leg based submissions. Kuivanen with a big strike to the face from 50/50 position. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kuivanen.
Round three: Simular start to the third round as what we’ve seen previously. Clarke looks for a takedown but Kuivanen reverses the situation and secures a takedown of his own. Kuivanen looks to pull guard with a guillotine but Clarke escapes. Kuivanen takes control in top position and pounds away from the half-guard of Clarke. Clarke attacks with a kimura from the bottom but Kuivanen pulls free and lands a left hand. Clarke gets back to his feet and looks for a takedown but Kuivanen stuffs it and looks to land a knee from the clinch. Clarke continues to look for the takedown but is punished for his trouble and Kuivanen takes control on top. Big shots from Kuivanen as he postures up. Clarke attacks the legs again of Kuivanen but the Finn stays clear of danger. The two men get to their feet in the final seconds and Kuivanen lands a big knee. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kuivanen.
Final result: Anton Kuivanen, unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
