UFC 149 – Cheick Kongo grinds out a unanimous decision win over Shawn Jordan much to the displeasure of the fans

UFC heavyweight contender, Cheick Kongo really failed to get his offence going tonight at UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, grinding out a unanimous decision win over novice, Shawn Jordan after spending much of the fight in the clinch up against the fence.

Kongo takes the center of the octagon and pumps out his jab. Leg kick from Kongo lands. Kongo flurries forward but Jordan reverses him and presses the action up against the fence. Kongo defends the takedown with under-hooks and knees to the body. Kongo spins and takes the back of Jordan, throwing a strike in the process. Low blow from Jordan lands. It appears to be a nasty elbow to the groin of the Frenchman. The action continues. Head kick from Kongo before clinching with Jordan. Kongo backs away. Nice right hand from Kongo on the way into the clinch. Kongo presses the action up against the fence as he keeps the pressure on the prospect. Jordan turns things around and looks for the takedown. Kongo hammers away to the face to defend. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kongo.

Nice knee on the way in by Kongo who clinches up against the fence. The two men exchange positions up against the fence but it’s Kongo landing the better strikes from this position. Kongo breaks free and throws a big right followed by a knee. The two engage in the clinch again and exchange knees. Kongo drops for a takedown but Jordan steps away. Big right hands landed by Kongo before he clinches. The two continue to exchange positions up against the cage before Kongo takes the back once again. Jordan recovers position but he can’t get Kongo off of him. Kongo gets the takedown but winds up slipping off after making a mistake. Jordan catches Kongo with a couple of strikes before the bell. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kongo.

The two exchange big blows but the knees of Kongo seem to be the difference. Jordan ties Kongo up in the clinch but eats a bunch of knees. Kongo takes the back once again standing before Jordan recovers position. Another knee from Kongo lands. The two separate and Kongo lands a right hand before clinching once again. The two exchange before Kongo ties Jordan up and lands a big knee. It’s not pretty but it is effective by Kongo. More knees from Kongo to the body. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Kongo.

The judges scored the bout 30-28, 30-27, 30-27 in favour of Kongo.
