Pat Healy: “I think I’ve got to be the next guy waiting in line for the title”
Strikeforce lightweight contender, Pat Healy has been giving his thoughts on his weekend win over Japanese star, Mizuto Hirota in Portland, Oregon, as well as declaring his title intentions towards the 155 pound gold currently around the waist of Gilbert Melendez.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Healy said:
“He was a champion in Japan in two different organizations. You don’t get to that level being a scrub. And he’s always done well against guys who try to take him down, so I knew it was going to be a tough fight going. I wish people were a little more educated on who I was going to fight.”
As for a shot at the lightweight title, Healy said:
“It’s been in the back of my mind. I feel like I’ve earned it. I’ve got the longest winning streak at the lightweight by I think a pretty good margin. I think I’ve earned. I think I’ve got to be the next guy waiting in line.”
Healy has now won five fights in a row including victories over the likes of Maximo Blanco and Caros Fodor inside the Strikeforce cage. His last defeat came at the hands of Josh Thomson coincidentally back in June 2010 via rear-naked choke. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on this as we get it.
