UFC on FUEL TV 4 – Marcelo Guimaraes grunts and groans his way to a split decision win over Dan Stittgen

UFC welterweight newcomer, Marcelo Guimaraes tonight picked up a workman-like split decision win over Dan Stittgen on the UFC on FUEL TV 4 card in San Jose, California, with the Brazilian grunting and groaning his way through the final minute of the fight.

Both men come out throwing body kicks before Guimaraes goes low. Guimaraes shoots in for a takedown but Stittgen initially stuffs it and gets his back against the fence. Big body shots from Stittgen as he looks to stop the takedown but Guimaraes is relentless. Stittgen reverses the situation and gets the fight to the ground. Guimaraes gets back to his feet. Guimaraes goes back to looking for the takedown but Stittgen again defends well. Guimaraes lands a number of knees to the thighs of Stittgen. Guimaraes keeps busy as he controls his opponent up against the fence. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Guimaraes.

High kick from Stittgen is blocked. Nice leg kick from Stittgen drops Guimaraes. The Brazilian gets back to his feet and pins Stittgen up against the fence once again as he rushes in. Stittgen circles off the fence and gets aggressive with a combination. Another leg kick lands from Stittgen. Guimaraes ties his opponent up again against the cage. Stittgen stuffs the takedown attempt before unloading. Low kick lands from Guimaraes. The two men exchange leg kicks. Guimaraes pins Stittgen up against the fence once again. The referee separates them. Guimaraes wades forward but Stittgen circles away. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Stittgen.

Stittgen comes out with the jab. Nice low kicks from Guimaraes land. Nice kicks from Guimaraes. Left hook from Stittgen lands but it seems his Brazilian counterpart is getting the better of the exchanges. Guimaraes shoots in looking for the takedown after a heated exchange. Guimaraes grunts his way through a bunch of strikes from the clinch. Knees from Guimaraes land to the legs in the final ten seconds. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Guimaraes.

The judges scored the bout 29-28, 28-29, 29-28 in favour of Guimaraes.
