UFC on FUEL TV 4 – Chris Cariaso cruises to an impressive unanimous decision win over Josh Ferguson
Former bantamweight, Chris Cariaso made an impressive start to life in the UFC’s flyweight division tonight on the UFC on FUEL TV 4 card in San Jose, California, defeating Josh Ferguson via unanimous decision after three hard-fought rounds.
Ferguson pushes forward with a series of strikes before looking for a takedown. Cariaso reverses the situation and gets a brief takedown. Nice right hand lands from Ferguson. Cariaso lands a left which hurts Ferguson. Cariaso lands again and Ferguson goes to the ground. Cariaso follows and winds up in half-guard before posturing up and returning to his feet. The two men exchange and Ferguson looks for a takedown and gets it. Ferguson passes to half-guard before looking for a guillotine. Cariaso works free and back to his feet. Nice left hand lands from Cariaso. Spinning kick from Ferguson lands to the face of Cariaso who just walks through it. Nice short elbows from Cariaso up against the cage before securing a takedown. That could steal the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Cariaso.
Right hand from Ferguson lands early. The two men continues to exchange and Ferguson seems to be cut over the left eye. Ferguson ducks under the punches and scores with a takedown. Cariaso shrugs him off and pounds away from his knees before both men return to the feet. Another takedown attempt from Ferguson is close but Cariaso makes him pay. Cariaso with a nice left hand. Ferguson looks for a takedown up against the fence before striking well on the exit. Nice combination from Cariaso before clinching and putting Ferguson on the fence. Cariaso with a takedown with time running out. Cariaso pounds away in the final seconds from the guard. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Cariaso.
Nice left hand from Ferguson before looking for a takedown. He drops down for a sweep but Cariaso sees it coming and takes control. Both men return to the feet following a scramble. Ferguson tries to get aggressive but Cariaso ties him up and sweeps him to the ground. Cariaso looks for a D’Arce from top position but Ferguson powers his way back to his feet. The two men separate. Cariaso looks to strike before clinching. Ferguson drops for a kimura before using the position to take the back of his opponent. Cariaso gets back to his feet but Ferguson is still hanging on. Ferguson looks for the rear-naked choke before pounding away in the final seconds. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Cariaso.
The judges scored the bout 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 in favour of Cariaso.
