Chad Mendes looking for a rematch with Jose Aldo as soon as possible
UFC featherweight contender, Chad Mendes has been arguing his case for a speedy rematch with Jose Aldo after impressively getting back to winning ways this past weekend at UFC 148 when he stopped Cody McKenzie in the very first round, and this time the Team Alpha Male fighter promises a better showing second time around.
Speaking during the UFC 148 post-fight press conference, Mendes said:
“I’m ready to get in there and fight again whenever they tell me. Whoever put in front of me, hopefully I get back to that title shot as quick as possible. I think going into that fight (with Aldo), I was the most mentally and physically prepared I’ve ever been for a fight. We knew going into that fight that I wasn’t going to get every single takedown that I tried. That was the goal, to keep pushing it, where if I shot and didn’t get it, I’d shoot again. If I didn’t get that one, I’d shoot again.
“I think I did everything right except for getting kneed in the face. I would do everything the same. I looked at the mistake I made, and I saw what I did wrong. Hopefully that doesn’t happen again, but I would probably train and do everything exactly like I did before.”
Mendes went undefeated in his first eleven professional mixed martial arts bouts, winning four via stoppage inside the distance. The run came to an end however when he ran into Jose Aldo in January and lost via first round TKO. He impressively got back to winning ways in July when he defeated Cody McKenzie via TKO in the very first minute.
