Stephan Bonnar still keen on a rematch with Forrest Griffin no matter the outcome of UFC 148
UFC light heavyweight veteran, Stephan Bonnar has today revealed he’s still campaigning for a trilogy bout with fellow reality show maverick, Forrest Griffin, explaining the two men have another classic in them despite their formative years.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Bonnar said:
“He can bring out the best in me. We can have a complete action-packed fight that the fans love. I want to give them a good fight. Also Forrest is a really big name. I want to fight people with lots of Twitter followers. Give me the big names. I’m getting old. I can’t do this forever. I know. I know me. I’ve had lots of injuries and surgeries. I’ve got a couple good years left in me. I’d like to make it worth my while. I’d like to retire with a lot of money from fighting.”
“The second fight I didn’t want to be there. I tried not taking the fight. I had a couple of really bad injuries, and I didn’t want to be there. I was just happy with losing a competitive decision. That’s what I did. After that fight, I got surgery on my elbow. Well, also 30 seconds in the fight, I shattered my right hand. I had surgery on that. It was a rough night.”
“People know they can fight me and be involved in a gritty slugfest, but I’m all about opening. It doesn’t matter what it is. I’m not too strong. I’m not too fast. I’m not a great wrestler. I couldn’t even qualify for state in high school my senior year in Indiana of high school, but I like fighting at a fast pace every second of every fight putting it all on the line.”
“Once you get in there and you hit him in the face, piss him off, it’s going to come out of him. He’s going to fight ass off like his life depended on it. You need the right opponent for that fight. I’m that guy.”
Bonnar has fought Griffin twice in the past, losing a close decision on the first ever season finale of “The Ultimate Fighter” back in 2005 before dropping a more one-sided affair fourteen months later at UFC 62. Stay tuned to MMABay to find out if “The American Psycho” gets his wish of a trilogy fight as we get it.
