UFC 152 – Rory MacDonald reveals it was B.J. Penn that called his bosses and wanted to fight him
UFC welterweight star on the rise, Rory MacDonald has today revealed that it was former two-division champion, B.J. Penn that made the first move in putting together their UFC 152 fight which is set for September 22nd in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, calling the bosses at Zuffa headquarters to ask for a fight with the ultra-talented Canadian.
Speaking via MMA Canada, MacDonald said:
“UFC brought it up to me that he’s coming out of retirement that he wanted to fight me, so I was a little bit shocked and surprised but I was excited. I took it to the next step and made it a public challenge. I did it respectfully because I do respect B.J. and I’ve looked up to him as a fighter, but this is a business and I want to fight him before he is done. Like I said, he wanted to fight me in the first place. I think he said he wanted to get some kind of revenge on Tri-Star or something like that, I don’t know. I don’t care about his reasoning, but I’m glad he wanted to fight me.”
MacDonald has gone from strength to strength since making his debut inside the octagon and is on a three-fight winning streak after defeating Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle and Che Mills in impressive fashion. His sole loss came against Carlos Condit at UFC 115, losing via TKO with just seconds left after dominating the first two rounds.
