Fabricio Werdum thinks he needs one more win before getting a crack at UFC gold
UFC heavyweight contender, Fabricio Werdum has been giving his thoughts on where his recent UFC 147 win over Mike Russow leaves him as far as the title picture is concerned, explaining he will probably need one more win to qualify himself for that all important shot at the gold.
Speaking via FOX Sports, Werdum said:
“For sure, I’m close (to a title shot) now. If the UFC asks, then I’m ready for sure but maybe one more fight, maybe on the Velasquez vs. dos Santos card. After that, if I win, maybe I will fight (the champion) in Brazil. I don’t know. I’m just here to fight. I’m just going to rest for one week. Then, I will go back to training again. I’m just going to wait for what the UFC says.”
Werdum has looked ultra-impressive since making his return to the octagon, defeating both Roy Nelson and Mike Russow with an improved stand-up game. The big question is who’s next for the Brazilian submission expert as he looks to qualify himself for a shot at the greatest prize of them all… the UFC heavyweight title. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on this as we get it.
