UFC on FX 4 – Dan Miller picks up a third round submission win over Ricardo Funch on his welterweight debut
UFC veteran, Dan Miller tonight picked up a hard-earned third round submission win over Ricardo Funch on his welterweight debut on the UFC on FX 4 card in Atlantic City, New Jersey, although it wasn’t without the Brazilian putting on a spirited display.
Funch opens up with a nice leg kick. Miller backs his opponent up before landing a big body kick. Funch locks up the clinch and pins Miller against the fence where he looks to go to work. Miller secures a body lock and almost forces the fight to the ground. Miller with a nice little takedown before landing a nice punch on the way back to the feet. Miller clinches and the two men exchange positions against the cage. The referee separates them. Miller wades in but Funch lands. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Funch.
Miller wades in, scoring with lefts and rights, before looking to lock up a standing guillotine. Miller switches to a double leg but Funch defends with a series of elbows to the temple. Miller backs off but Funch lands again. Funch shoots in but Miller defends and locks up the guillotine again. Miller drops for a takedown but Funch avoids and secures double under-hooks. Miller looks for the guillotine again as they hit the ground but the fence us in the way so he switches to a heel-hook. Funch breaks free and kicks at the legs before posturing and throwing a punch or two. Miller lands an up-kick before regaining his feet. Funch takes control once again against the fence and looks to sweep Miller to the ground. Miller again looks for the guillotine but he can’t get it. Funch keeps the pressure on. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Funch.
Leg kick from Funch. Miller pushes forward and lands a couple of nice punches. Nice counter from Miller sees Funch dropped to the ground. Miller attempts to finish but Funch recovers and manages to get back to his feet. Miller keeps the pressure on and knocks Funch again to the ground. Funch regains his feet and manages to clinch against the fence before securing a takedown. Miller gets back up and looks for that guillotine again, dropping to his guard. He rolls Funch to his back and the Brazilian is forced to tap.
