Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante tested positive for steroids, result of Mike Kyle fight ruled a no-contest
The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has today revealed that former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante tested positive for steroids following his fight with Mike Kyle just last month, as well as changing the result of that fight to a no-contest.
According to a release from the CSAC, the Brazilian fighter tested positive for stanozolol metabolites. The resulting test earned Cavalcante a one-year suspension retroactive to the date before his fight, May 18, 2012, and his fight with Kyle has been overturned and ruled a no-decision. CSAC Executive Officer George Dodd said:
“Our primary concern is for the health and safety of fighters. Anabolic agents and other banned substances put not only the users of those agents at risk, but their opponents as well. The commission simply will not tolerate their use.”
Cavalcante submitted Kyle in just 33 seconds during their fight and he was rumoured to be in line for a shot at the vacant title against Gegard Mousasi later this year. This marks the third high-profile Strikeforce fighter to test positive after Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.
