Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante becomes the latest fighter to test positive for banned substances
Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante has become the latest high-profile fighter to test positive for banned substances by the California State Athletic Commission following his fight with Mike Kyle last month in San Jose.
The California State Athletic Commission executive officer George Dodd confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com on Friday. As a result, Cavalcante has been suspended for one year and fined $2,500 by the CSAC. Ed Soares, the manager of the Brazilian fighter, said:
“I believe in his innocence, and we’re fighting it. We stand behind him. There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t make sense.”
Cavalcante submitted Kyle in just 33 seconds during their fight and he was rumoured to be in line for a shot at the vacant title against Gegard Mousasi later this year. This marks the third high-profile Strikeforce fighter to test positive after Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.
