Paul “Semtex” Daley signs with the Bellator Fighting Championship
British welterweight knockout artist, Paul “Semtex” Daley has today signed with fast-moving promotion, the Bellator Fighting Championship in a multi-fight move, with his debut set to come at Bellator 72 on July 20th against a yet to be named opponent.
Speaking via a press release earlier today, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said:
“I’ve been a ‘Semtex’ fan for years. He’s an incredibly explosive fighter who is magic to watch inside the cage. So, when the opportunity presented itself to join forces with Paul, it was a simple decision to make. Paul’s one of those fighters I’ve always intentionally stayed home to watch and now I can watch him cageside at Bellator.”
Daley, who was given his release from his Strikeforce contract last week, also said:
“I’ve been a fan of Bellator for a long while. When this chance came up, I was absolutely ready to make a long-term commitment to Bellator. I have my sights set on winning the tournament and winning that Bellator title.”
Daley has really slipped down the ranks at 170 pounds of late, losing his last three fights with Strikeforce to Nick Diaz, Tyron Woodley and Kazuo Misaki. He did pick up a couple of wins on the local circuit during that time, although the names he beat really doesn’t nothing to bolster his position at 170 pounds. Stay tuned to MMABay for news on what’s next for the British knockout artist as we get it.
