UFC 149 – Jose Aldo the latest fighter injured, Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao the new main event

June 10, 2012 All MMA News, UFC  Comments

UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo has become the latest high profile casualty on the Las Vegas based promotions roster, forcing him out of UFC 149. There is a silver lining however for fans though as the interim bantamweight title fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao has been bumped to the July 21st card in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The UFC announced the switch just a couple of hours ago. It is unclear whether Aldo’s opponent, Erik Koch will remain a part of the card or will wait for the Brazilian’s return.

Faber is coming off an impressive second round submission win over former WEC champion, Brian Bowles last time out. This enabled him to bounce back from the close decision loss to Cruz last summer which went the distance over 25 minutes.

Barao has been on fire since moving over to the ranks of the UFC, defeating the likes of Brad Pickett via submission before out pointing Scott Jorgensen in his last fight. He was due to face Ivan Menjivar on the UFC 148 card but will now be bumped to the co-main event of the evening. There is currently no word on who Menjivar will face at this time.
