UFC 152 – Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez II and B.J. Penn vs. Rory MacDonald to headline September 22nd event in Toronto
UFC President, Dana White has just announced that the UFC 152 card set for September 22nd in Toronto, Ontario, Canada will be headlined by two massive fights as heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos defends his title against the man he defeated for it a little under a year ago, Cain Velasquez, as well as the welterweight clash between B.J. Penn and Rory MacDonald.
The news came during the UFC on FX 3 post-fight press conference where the head of the Las Vegas based promotion cleared up a number of lingering questions.
Dos Santos has looked unstoppable on his way to the top of the division, defeating the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Gabriel Gonzaga and Roy Nelson. He was last seen in action at UFC 146 in May where he stopped Frank Mir in the second round with a barrage of punches.
Velasquez appears to be a man on a mission after suffering his first defeat of his mixed martial arts career to dos Santos last November. He returned to action on the UFC 146 card and demolished Antonio “Big Foot” Silva in the very first round to make a statement.
MacDonald has gone from strength to strength since making his debut inside the octagon and is on a three-fight winning streak after defeating Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle and Che Mills in impressive fashion. His sole loss came against Carlos Condit at UFC 115, losing via TKO with just seconds left after dominating the first two rounds.
Penn has won just one of his last five bouts inside the octagon. His victory over Matt Hughes is his only one since December 2009, with losses coming at the hands of Frankie Edgar (twice) and Nick Diaz. Stay tuned to MMABay for more news on this situation as we get it.
