UFC on FOX 4 – Lyoto Machida feels he’ll be prepared for the wrestling aspect of Ryan Bader’s game

June 6, 2012 All MMA News, UFC  Comments

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida has been giving his thoughts on his UFC on FOX 4 showdown with Ryan Bader which is set for August 4th in Los Angeles, California, explaining he’ll be preparing for the wrestling side of the fight in the coming weeks in order to negate his opponent’s greatest strength.

Speaking via Tatame Magazine, when asked about the wrestling aspect of Bader’s game, Machida said:

“I’ll be prepared for his attacks. We’re fighting MMA, so I’m supposed to expect him to punch me too. A combination is always possible and I’m getting ready for it but of course I’ll try to block his game the most I can and put my game into action.”

“He’s coming from a win over Quinton Jackson, so I believe a good win and maybe one or two fights would put me on the line for the title. But that’s not my plan. I’m focused on doing a good fight. I’m training here on the United States, which is a new thing for me. I believe that, in case I win, I’ll be closer to the title.”

Machida will be looking to recapture the kind of form that saw him win the title back in 2009 and looked unstoppable in doing so. He has lost three of his last four bouts to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Jon Jones. His only win was over Randy Couture. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as we get it.
