Brett Rogers attempts to kick-start his career by signing with Bellator
In an attempt to kick-start his flagging mixed martial arts career former Strikeforce and EliteXC heavyweight stand-out, Brett Rogers has signed with the Bellator Fighting Championship and will be making his promotional debut on June 22nd at Bellator 71.
In a statement released through Bellator, Rogers claimed that recent legal and personal problems are now behind him and he’s ready to move forward in his career.
“Over the past year I have been challenged in my personal life, but all is now good in the Rogers family. Everyone makes mistakes in life but it’s how you recover that really counts. I spend every day with my wife and kids and enjoy every minute of it. Fighting is my job and I love it, but I also love my family and that’s why I made things right before returning to the cage. All I can say is get ready for a new and improved Brett Rogers.”
Bellator CEO also spoke about the signing, explaining the decision to sign Rogers was far from a knee-jerk reaction.
“After talking to Brett at length, I think this could be the type of fresh start he needs to put his fighting career and other parts of his life back to where he hoped they would be.”
Rogers found himself dumped by his bosses at Zuffa headquarters after an altercation with his wife that saw him arrested and thrown in jail on battery charges. With heavy hands and the kind of size needed to be a success in the heavyweight division, could Bellator have found a legitimate challenger for current champion, Cole Konrad? Tell us what you think…
