Dana White says Cain Velasquez “deserves” the next shot at Junior dos Santos, Daniel Cormier also in the mix

May 27, 2012 All MMA News, UFC  Comments

The next challenger to the UFC heavyweight title may have been decided last night at UFC 146 in Las Vegas, Nevada as the promotions head-honcho Dana White said in his opinion former title holder, Cain Velasquez deserved the next shot at Junior dos Santos inside the octagon.

Speaking at the UFC 146 post-fight press conference, Dana said:

“I like that fight. Cain deserves the next fight.”

When asked about the possibility of Daniel Corimer coming over and sticking his nose into the mix, Dana added:

“Yes, he will end up coming over to the UFC. But the thing is I’d love to see the guy go down to 205. I think he’s a small heavyweight over here. I’m not telling him, the guy wants to stay at heavyweight, I’m not going to tell him where to go, but I think it would be a good move for him to go to 205. If he comes over and wants to fight for the heavyweight championship, yes (he will).”

With Cormier set to fight one more time with Strikeforce before making the potential switch it’s likely to be Velasquez who gets the nod at this point in a fight that will likely go down before the end of the year. Stay tuned to MMABay for more news on this situation as we get it.
