UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir results, updates and live play-by-play TONIGHT on MMABay!!!
MMABay will be coming to you LIVE from Las Vegas, Nevada, tonight, the scene of UFC 146, in order to bring you all the action from the MGM Grand Garden Arena where UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos defends his title against number one contender, Frank Mir in the main event of the evening.

We’ll be covering the entire card, top-to-bottom, from the co-main event clash between heavyweights, Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Big Foot” Silva to the preliminary card battle between Mike Brown and Daniel Pineda. UFC 146 play-by-play live main card commentary:
Junior dos Santos vs. Frank Mir (265-pound division limit)
Round one: Mir stalks the champion before shooting in against the cage. He drops and attempts to pull guard but he can’t keep hold of the leg. Back to standing. Low kick from Mir. Dos Santos with a nice right hand but Mir seems to block it. Left hook from dos Santos lands. Low kick from Mir, and another. The champion connects with a nice combination. Another nice kick from Mir before getting his hands up for the counter. Nice left hand by Mir sneaks through. Dos Santos goes to the body with a big shot. The champion is doing well to keep Mir at the end of his punches. Dos Santos staggers Mir and looks to finish before the bell. Mir gets desperate with a takedown attempt but doesn’t complete it. MMABay scores the round 10-9 dos Santos.
Round two: Dos Santos with a straight right to begin the second round. The Brazilian drops Mir with a punch before waving him back to his feet. Another nice flurry from dos Santos lands. Mir needs to go back to at least trying to get this fight to the ground. Inside leg kick from Mir lands, and another. Big right hand from dos Santos sees Mir drop to his back. Dos Santos swarms, putting all sorts of pressure on Mir. The referee steps in.
Final result: Junior dos Santos, (T)KO, 2nd round.
Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio “Big Foot” Silva (265-pound division limit)
Round one: Velasquez with a quick takedown to open but he eats an up-kick. Silva lowers him into his guard but I’m sure this isn’t where he wanted to be at this stage. Elbows from Velasquez cut open the nose of Silva. There is a lot of blood. This could be one of the worst cuts I’ve seen in terms of blood produced. Velasquez postures up before Silva looks for some sort of sweep. Velasquez moves to half-guard and wails away at the head of the Brazilian with punches and elbows. Silva rolls to his knees and Velasquez pounds away from the back. Silva rolls to his back and Velasquez pours it on. The referee steps in. That was a statement.
Final result: Cain Velasquez, (T)KO, 1st round.
Roy Nelson vs. Dave Herman (265-pound division limit)
Round one: Herman with a couple of teep kicks to begin as he tries to keep Nelson at range. Nice knee from Herman. Big right hand over the top from Nelson drops Herman like a sack of spuds. The referee steps in.
Final result: Roy Nelson, (T)KO, 1st round.
Shane Del Rosario vs. Stipe Miocic (265-pound division limit)
Round one: Del Rosario misses with a low kick early. Body kick from Del Rosario lands before scoring with one to the leg. Miocic is trying to get through and counter with the hands due to his Golden Gloves boxing background. Body kick again from Del Rosario lands, and another. They seem to be hurting Miocic. Del Rosario may have hurt the right hand/arm of Miocic. Del Rosario is punishing Miocic with kicks to the body and legs at will right now. Del Rosario again to the body. Big uppercut counter from Del Rosario seems to hurt Miocic but he can’t take advantage. Nice left hand from Del Rosario lands before Miocic at last decides to grapple. Back to the striking and Miocic lands the left. Nice combination from Del Rosario finishes with a couple of big kicks. Miocic with a late takedown but he lets his opponent up. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Del Rosario.
Round two: Nice low kick from Del Rosario, and another. Del Rosario goes to the body this time. Nice combination from Miocic before securing a takedown. Miocic has side control before looking to mount Del Rosario. Miocic hammers away from half-guard as he looks to shift the momentum in his favour. Elbows from Miocic land to the jaw of Del Rosario and he seems to be even cut. Miocic mounts but Del Rosario soon recovers half-guard. A series of big elbows from Miocic land and force the referee to step in.
Final result: Stipe Miocic, (T)KO, 2nd round.
Stefan Struve vs. Lavar Johnson (265-pound division limit)
Round one: Johnson backs Struve up with a big uppercut and body shots before pinning him on the fence. Struve pulls guard and spins for an arm-bar. He has it and goes belly-down. He breaks the arm of Johnson as the referee steps in.
Final result: Stefan Struve, submission (arm-bar), 1st round.
UFC 146 play-by-play live preliminary card commentary:
Diego Brandao vs. Darren Elkins (145-pound division limit)
Round one: Both men start cautiously before Brandao leaps in with a kick. The two clinch but Brandao winds up on top. The two exchange positions before Elkins looks for a takedown up against the cage. Brandao uses a kimura to get on top. Elkins looks for a kimura of his own but Brandao backs out. Elkins shoots but Brandao sprawls nicely. Flying knee from Brandao clearly hurts Elkins who drops to the canvas. Brandao moves to side control before dropping elbows. Brandao fails to mount his opponent so he backs out. A series of rights has Elkins in all sorts of trouble as Brandao looks to pour it on. Brandao moves to side control once again before backing away and posturing up. Big right hand from Brandao lands but Elkins maintains guard. Brandao postures up again and lands big punches. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Brandao.
Round two: Slower start to the second round by both men before Brandao lands a nice knee. Nice counter right from Elkins lands. Step-in elbow from Brandao lands. Brandao slips attempting a kick giving Elkins the chance to take top position. Elkins postures up and looks to throw down. The two scramble but Elkins maintains the advantage on the ground. Elbows from the bottom from Brandao land. Elkins moves to half-guard before taking the mount. Big ground and pound from Elkins lands before Brandao bucks him off. Elkins pours it on to end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Elkins.
Round three: Uppercut from Brandao to begin this all important final round. Elkins pushes forward landing lefts and rights. Elkins with a takedown and straight into the guard of the Brazilian. Elkins is doing a good job of keeping the pressure on as he moves to half-guard before securing the mount. Brandao recovers half-guard but Elkins is hammering away to his body repeatedly. Elkins looks to lock up a guillotine from the top position but he can’t finish and lets go. Brandao back to his feet before forcing Elkins to his back. Brandao misses with a punch before Elkins ties him up. Big right from Brandao to end the fight. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Elkins.
Final result: Darren Elkins, unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Edson Barboza vs. Jamie Varner (155-pound division limit)
Round one: Two leg kicks from Barboza land early. More leg kicks land from the Brazilian. Varner catches a head-kick and forces the fight to the ground. Barboza pushes Varner off with his feet and gets back to a standing position. Another kick from Barboza lands, and another. Those kicks are coming often. Varner with a right hand staggers Barboza for a second. Body shot from Varner followed by one over the top. Varner eats another leg kick before staggering Barboza with a flurry of punches. Barboza looks to secure a leg on the way down but the punches keep coming from Varner until the referee steps in.
Final result: Jamie Varner, (T)KO, 1st round.
Jason “Mayhem” Miller vs. C.B. Dollaway (185-pound division limit)
Round one: Showboating early from Miller. Miller lands a nice right hand which rocks Dollaway but he survives by shooting in. Miller snatches a guillotine on the way down but Dollaway pops out. The two men regain their feet and Miller delivers a noogie to Dollaway. The two men exchange decent punches before Dollaway drops Miller. Miller’s knee might have given out on him. Dollaway looks to take the back on the ground and pound away. Miller gets to the fence but Dollaway keeps him grounded by pulling his legs from under him. Dollaway looks to crank on the arm, forcing Miller to give up the mount position. Miller rolls but Dollaway stays on him. Miller gets back to his feet. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Dollaway.
Round two: A slower start to the second before Dollaway looks to land the uppercut before tossing Miller to the ground. Miller lands a big right hand which has Dollaway in all sorts of trouble as he staggers backwards around the octagon. Dollaway rolls backwards but manages to secure a body lock up against the fence quickly. Miller gets to his knees but he can’t shake Dollaway at this point. Dollaway with another takedown up against the fence. Elbows from Dollaway lands before smothering Miller. More ground and pound lands from Dollaway. The round ends with Dollaway n the guard of Miller and both men swinging wildly. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Dollaway.
Round three: Miller comes out swinging, looking to press his advantage on the feet. Dollaway makes him miss, spins to the back and secures a takedown. Smart move. Dollaway traps an arm behind Millers back and wades away. Miller gets it free and looks to stand but he can’t shake the former reality show contestant. Dollaway takes the back and keeps the pressure on Miller. Miller gets back to his feet but Dollaway dumps him back to the ground. Dollaway takes the back and flattens him out before hammering away to the head. Miller is not putting up any offence as he fails to defend repeated shots from the back. Miller eventually rolls to his back and Dollaway takes the mount. A little trash-talk from Dollaway in the last ten seconds before landing an elbow. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Dollaway.
Final result: C.B. Dollaway, unanimous decision (29-28, 30-26, 29-28).
Dan Hardy vs. Duane Ludwig (170-pound division limit)
Round one: Cautious start from both men. Ludwig lands a nice punch which forces Hardy to clinch and press him up against the cage. The two men exchange knees as they look for underhooks. Nice combination from Hardy on the exit. Hardy again lands and is looking to have settled. Ludwig misses with a head-kick. Ludwig is countering Hardy nicely as the momentum swings one way and then the other. Nice knees to the body from Ludwig as Hardy clinches up against the fence again. Nice exchange on the exit from Ludwig. Lead left-hook from hardy lands dropping Ludwig. Hardy follows up with a series of elbows which puts Ludwig out cold.
Final result: Dan Hardy, (T)KO, 1st round.
Jacob Volkmann vs. Paul Sass (155-pound division limit)
Round one: Sass quickly out and he eats a low kick. Nice overhand right from Sass before they clinch. Sass pulls guard but Volkmann has hold of a guillotine but it’s not dangerous. Sass locks up an omoplata but Volkmann pulls free. Volkmann postures up looking to strike but Sass pulls him back down into the guard. Sass locks up a triangle choke and finishes it.
Final result: Paul Sass, submission (triangle choke/arm-bar), 1st round.
Kyle Kingsbury vs. Glover Teixeira (205-pound division limit)
Round one: The two men exchange wild blows to open the fight as Teixeira pushes forward looking to finish the fight. Big uppercut from Teixeira lands, dropping Kingsbury. Teixeira follows him to the ground and quickly moves to the mount. Big punches from Teixeira rain down. Teixeira nips off locking up a arm-triangle choke. Kingsbury taps. Wow…
Final result: Glover Teixeira, submission (arm-triangle choke), 1st round.
Mike Brown vs. Daniel Pineda (145-pound division limit)
Round one: The two men look to exchange early on. Brown shoots in and scores with a nice takedown. Brown looks to pin an arm but Pineda powers out and gains top position himself. Brown ties him up with butterflies before scrambling back to his feet. The two men look for takedowns up against the fence before Brown lands a big right on the exit. Leg kick by Pineda. Nice left hand from Pineda but it’s blocked. Pineda looks for a takedown but is tossed to the ground by Brown who takes a half-guard position. Brown pounds away. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Brown.
Round two: Pineda pushes forward with a flying knee but Brown lands a nice combination. Pineda shoots in and scores a takedown but Brown has hold of his neck at this point. Scramble sees Brown toss Pineda to the ground before taking a north-south position. Brown moves to side control but Pineda sweeps him to his back. Pineda takes the neck from a front headlock position before the two men work their way back to the feet. Brown presses Pineda up against the fence and goes to work with short knees and punches. Pineda comes back swinging but mostly misses. Great round so far. Spinning back-fist from Pineda is blocked. Scramble again sees Brown take top position. Brown looks much the stronger fighter. Brown stays active from the top with hammer-fists as Pineda looks for a submission off his back. Elbow from the bottom from Pineda lands cutting Brown by the looks of things. Big shots from Brown end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Brown.
Round three: Leg kick from Pineda lands to open the final round. Pineda stuffs the takedown but Brown throws a big knee to the mid-section that hurts his opponent. Brown takes control on the ground before moving to side control for a second. Pineda recovers full guard. Brown is relentless with the ground and pound from top position as he wades away. Pineda with a great transition as he takes the former featherweight champions back. Pineda locks up a body-triangle and looks for a rear-naked choke. He pounds away looking to set it up but the veteran is wily. Brown covers up until the final bell sounds. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Pineda.
Final result: Mike Brown, unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
