Chael Sonnen receives a therapeutic-use exemption from the Nevada State Athletic Commission
UFC middleweight number one contender, Chael Sonnen has today received a therapeutic-use exemption (TUE) for the use of testosterone in advance of the UFC 148 headliner against Anderson Silva on July 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada, meaning the rematch with “The Spider” is on.
Sonnen’s application for TUE was not passed without some scrutiny, as he faced the NSAC for approximately 30 minutes before ultimately receiving permission to continue self-administering testosterone injections, a procedure he admitted to following since 2008.
One condition of the TUE grant is that Sonnen must follow a number of directives handed down by NSAC executive director, Keith Kizer and submit an additional post-fight blood test the morning after the fight at his own expense. Stay tuned to MMABay for a statement from the fighter himself if it’s forthcoming and let’s face it he’s unlikely to stay quiet for long.
