Nick Diaz no-shows for charity Jiu-Jitsu match with Braulio Estima (UPDATE)
Just when you thought he couldn’t damage his reputation any more, he does. UFC welterweight bad-boy, Nick Diaz has failed to turn up for a Jiu-Jitsu match with renowned grappler, Braulio Estima this weekend in Long Beach, Califorina, leaving his opponent feeling disrespected and in disbelief.
Diaz was repeatedly asked to report to the registration desk over the loud public address system but those calls were never answered by the Stockton native. His opponent was left on the mat awaiting his opponents arrival which never came. To make things worse, some of the proceeds of the event were to go to charity and with Diaz involved support for the event had swelled considerably. Diaz also announced that his purse was to be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital of Memphis.
The writing was perhaps on the wall the day before after Estima weighed in 189 pounds for the 180 pound match. The two camps subsequently agreed that if the fighter could make 185 pounds on Saturday morning then the match would go ahead. It seems Mr. Diaz was still not happy by this and decided to remove himself from the event without notifying anyone. Check out the video interview below where Estima talks about how he felt regarding the situation…
Update: Diaz offered the following explanation via his Twitter for his actions…
“Promoter fails to donate the money to charity as agreed. (shady) Promoter changes rules for weigh ins to accommodate fellow Brazilian. Match ain’t happening.”
