Wanderlei Silva reveals why he’s having so much trouble with retiring
Former PRIDE middleweight champion, Wanderlei Silva has been speaking about the possibility of hanging his gloves up for good in the coming month, but to be more specific the problems with doing exactly that as fans from around the world clamour to see “The Axe Murderer” fight just one more time.
Speaking via SporTV.com, Wanderlei explained:
“How can I say it? I am in a situation… people want to see a show. I thought that I would do my last fight in Japan but then Germany, Australia and other countries came in asking me to make the final fight in their country. I’m feeling really good. I have to repeat what I said before my latest fight: only my performance can tell me if I can continue or not. Nobody who knocks Belfort out [then goes and] retires!”
Wanderlei has gone 3-3 in his last six bouts inside the octagon, notching wins over Keith Jardine, Michael Bisping and most recently Cung Le. A string of knockout losses left him on the verge of losing his spot on the UFC roster. He headlines UFC 147 opposite Vitor Belfort on June 23rd in Brazil.
