SFL 3 – James Thompson derails Bobby Lashley in the main event of the evening
It probably wasn’t the result the promoters of Super Fight League were secretly hoping for when they booked UK heavyweight James Thompson to take on former WWE Superstar, Bobby Lashley on their third event earlier today in New Delhi, India, but the Brit upset the odds nevertheless with a three round unanimous decision win inside the cage on the night.
Lashley looked very impressive early on, lighting Thompson up on the feet with an overhand right before taking the fight to the ground and controlling the action from there. As the fight wore on those the powerhouse began to tire and Thompson took over, pushing Lashley up against the cage and working him over with a relentless dirty boxing attack which consisted of punches and knees. Lashley could perhaps count himself unlucky to have not walked away with at least a draw after Thompson landed a couple of knees south of the border, but unlike earlier fights he went unpunished. A final flurry was not enough for Lashley who seemed to pace himself much better over the fifteen minutes than we’d previously seen him.
Here’s a full run-down of the results:
James Thompson def. Bobby Lashley via unanimous decision
Joanne Calderwood def. Lena Ovchynnikova via unanimous decision
Kultar Gill def. Quinton Arendse via knockout (punches) – round 1, 0:51
Trevor Prangley def. Baga Agaev via knockout (punches) – round 3,
Lakwinder Sekhon def. Vladimir Biandov via TKO (ref stoppage) – round 2, 5:00
Gurdashan Mangat def. Liu Si Cong via submission (rear-naked choke) – round 2, 2:37
Zelg Galesic def. Doug Marshall via knockout (flying knee) – round 1, 0:34
