Fabricio Werdum: “No one in MMA was surprised when Alistair Overeem tested positive”
UFC heavyweight contender, Fabricio Werdum has today been commenting on the recent failed drug test by number one contender and bitter rival, Alistair Overeem, with the Brazilian adding that no one in the mixed martial arts world was surprised by the results.
Speaking via Tatame Magazine, Werdum said:
“Actually, no one in MMA was surprised. I guess it’s impossible to get that big naturally. No one expected it. I guess that’s what happened. I don’t know when he stops taking it, I don’t know how these things happen and how he doesn’t not to get caught, but it was a surprise.”
On the possibility of random drug tests in the future, Werdum added:
“The extra fuel makes a difference when the race comes (laughs). They could always do it and not only the day before the fight. I guess that each day that goes by things get harder. It’s so professional that they really should randomly test people.”
Overeem is expected at a hearing in Nevada on April 24th to explain exactly why his levels were so high and will look to push through his application to fight in person. He was expected to face UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC 146 before news of his failure surfaced. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on this situation as we get it.
