EXCLUSIVE MMABay interview with Dennis Siver ahead of his UFC on FUEL TV 2 showdown with Diego Nunes

MMABay continues it’s run of EXCLUSIVE interviews this month with another high-profile name from the UFC ranks, this time German based stand-up artist Dennis Siver. We asked him about his upcoming fight against Diego Nunes on the UFC on FUEL TV 2 show, how his weight-cut is coming as he prepares to make featherweight for the first time and his hopes for the future. To find out what he had to say check out the feature in full on the other side.

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for taking the time to sit down with and answer a few of our questions.

Siver – Thank you for your interest! I´m looking forward to this interview!

MMABay – You were last seen in action on the UFC 137 card in October where you dropped a first round submission to Donald Cerrone. What were you able to take from the fight and why do you think it went against you on the night?

Siver – He was the better man that night. To be honest, it went really fast, i got kicked on my head, this is where the problems started. But he could not finish me with this first kick, but he did later, as you all know. I have learned to always keep your hands up. Defenece is so important! So i have also focused on my defence at training camp for Nunes.

MMABay – Prior to that fight you’d won eight of you last nine fights and seemed to be a real powerhouse in the lightweight division. What has prompted your decision to move down in weight to 145 pounds?

Siver – Lightweight is so stocked, there are to many great guys, so the chance to get a title shoot is really low. Also, most of the guys have a reach advantage on me. So i´m going to drop down, as a new motivation for me.

MMABay – There were rumours circulating that you could face “Ultimate Fighter” season nine winner, Ross Pearson for a second time in your first fight at featherweight. Was this something that was mentioned to you by the UFC and is this a fight you would like to see happen in the future now both of you are once again at the same weight?

Siver – I have seen it all over the internet, but the UFC has never officially announced that fight to me. Yes, I want to fight Ross again, so I can show the world that I can beat him. This is no excuse at all, but in my last fight, I really suffered from such a bad cold. But anyways, Ross is really strong and a great fighter!

MMABay – Your next fight comes on the UFC on FUEL TV 2 card set for April 14th in Stockholm, Sweden where you’ll take on dangerous Brazilian, Diego Nunes. What kind of support are you expecting fighting so close to where you currently reside in Germany?

Siver – I used to fight in Sweden alot as an amateur. So hopefully, some of the people will recognize me and support me on that night. Also, I know, some of my German fans and friends are flying to Sweden, to support me. Unfortunately, the tickets were sold out after 1 hour.

MMABay – How did the fight with Nunes come about? Were the two of you simply matched up by Joe Silva or is there any ill feeling from one or both of you heading into this one?

Siver – Nunes has a simular fighting style than myself. He likes to bang and kick, also he loves spinning back kicks. But Joe did a great job, i think the fans would love our fight!

MMABay – Nunes is known as somewhat of a striker with a dangerous ground game to boot, much like yourself. After studying his tapes and knowing your own skill set where do you see your biggest advantage over your opponent, on the feet or on the ground?

Siver – Hard to say. We both have the purple belt on BJJ, both have good stand up. But I think I´m more powerful, but really, it´s hard to say. Also, I have to loose weight, so I will be faster. May the best man win!

MMABay – At 33-years of age you’ve known as somewhat of a veteran of the sport, especially when you consider your extensive octagon experience. Heading into your first featherweight bout next month what are your long term career goals?

Siver – Becoming the first German UFC champion of all times, also legalizing MMA in Germany.

MMABay – Just in case some of our readers haven’t seen you fight before can you sum up in a few words what they can expect to see out of you come April 14th inside the octagon?

Siver – Get ready for fight of the night, KO or submission of the night. This fight will be awsome.

MMABay – Before we go are there any sponsors, trainers or training partners you’d like to mention?

Siver – Sure, thanks to all of my training partners, thanks for the sweat, bruses and pain. Thanks to my trainers and sponsors for the upcoming fight!

MMABay – Thanks for taking the time to speak to

Siver – Thank you MMABay, also thanks to my fans for all the support! Check out the new promotional website, that should help to legalize MMA!
