Lorenzo Fertitta fires back at Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
UFC co-owner, Lorenzo Fertitta has tonight fired back at former light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, making it clear under no uncertain terms that the fighter will complete his current contract and despite being a less draw these days they are interested in matching him with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Speaking via Yahoo! Sports, Fertitta said:
“He has one more fight on his contract and our position is that he’s contractually obligated to take a fight and fulfil his obligation, just as he’d expect us to fulfil our obligation. He is, to some extent, still a draw. An interesting fight we’d like to make, one we’ve talked about, would be him and Shogun. I think that would be an interesting fight. They’re both coming off a loss, they have a history and they have both expressed interest in the fight in the past.”
I must admit I find the comment of, “he is, to some extent, still a draw” a little hard to swallow as I’d still put the former champion in the top ten draws that the Las Vegas based promotion currently have on their books despite a recent downturn in form. This only confirms the conversations Jackson has described during his recent outbursts and goes someway to explaining why he feels so aggrieved. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on this as we get it.
